This was closed down at first, and opened up after about an hour. On the nose, plum, ether, and a hint of lemon. On the palate, plum, black cherry, and notes of olive tapenade, iron, and faint black pepper, with moderate tannins and strong acidity on the medium to long finish. This was a good value at about $80, but for the triple-digit sums it's going for now it would be a disappointment. The Cellartracker drinking window looks about right.

This needed some air, but was so very elegant, with good acidity, still some noticeable tannins, fresh dark fruit, but showing more clear raspberry, cream and flowers later. An absolutely stunning wine!

Utregs Wijnhuis tasting Exclusief (Utrecht, NL) : This needed a bit of air, but then it became truly brilliant! Aged Northern Rhone is one of my favorites, the combination of elegance, power and complexity. Medium+ intensity with bacon, smoke, earthy, minerality, black fruit, charcoal, some red fruit. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins and a long finish. There is a light green note on the palate, maybe because of the whole bunch? 95-96 24 months on 30% new oak

Meals in France; 4/30/2022-5/6/2022 (France) : Stern and impenetrable to summary, this was decanted, but never really came around and was lacking fruit when finished two hours later. While there was no discernable TCA taint, I am thinking this was slightly corked.

Graphites, dark fruit, spice explode out of the glass, it's a powerful nose. The palate is dark and structured initially but it quickly unrobes and the mid palate is filled with leather, dark plum, earth and fine tannin. A meaty allure starts to build on the finish that works perfectly with the burly density of the wine.

Meget innsmigrende og rasetypisk syrah-duft. Litt matt på smak i forhold til duft. Vinner ikke på fortsatt lagring

Very balanced for a ripe vintage. On the nose, it displayed menthol, cedarwood, candied fruit and white peach. The nose was so atypical but in a good way. The fruit on the palate was sweet but not jammy. Drinking well but it lacked complexity.

Acker 2018/12 (Vaucluse) : Vegetative, intensely savory. Good balance but too reserved today. 92

(night 1): opaque ruby; powerful smoke, rubber and game on the nose; initially unbalanced v a somewhat muted palate but over time this evolves and lengthens; indistinct dark fruits on the nose and palate; good acidity which keeps the body relatively light; length medium. (night 2): similar but with more luscious fruit and length.
