Elvio Cogno, Barbera d'Alba, Pre-Phylloxera

Interesting wine. A bit tight on opening but after half an hour developed some lovely characteristics. A medium bodied wine that really wants food. Expect it to develop over many years. Not an intense nose. Dark fruits, a bit floral and dusty. Sharp blueberry flavor with oak, oregano and some nice spices that open out on the finish. High acid, firm but not aggressive tannins. Decent finish.

Dusty, floral aromas, cherry, licorice, tar. After opening up the finish has a sort of wild/meaty note. Nice acidity and a long finish. Interesting and delicious.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry and raspberry. It tastes like strawberry and raspberry. The body is medium/full. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.

With Walter Deep nose and color. A terrific nose. Violet and roses, spice, tar. It's rich and ripe vertical and broad, but what impresses the most is the near perfect harmony. If there ever was a three dimensional barbera this is it. A wine of structure yet finesse. Dark but bright. Powerful yet it dances on the palate. Fantastic spice. Seamless. Power and harmony. Drinking very well. Dark red. No signs of age. Intense cherries and forest. In balance. Delicious.

Dark red in color. Nose of dried cherry, anise, a little vanilla. Great palate of red fruit, with Pencil lead, leather and Hint of chocolate. Very enjoyable.

Very dense colour; super dense nose, dark olive and brooding dark cherry fruits, gamey and complex. Very impressive and seductive; gorgeous palate, so impressive, this is really special. Mocha tinged finish. Very long.

Old barbera stocks from Berri near La Morra. Aged 12 months in slovenian cask. 6 months in bottle. Ruby red. Red berries on nose. Taste of raspberry, strawberry. Liqourice. There is a hint of oak with wood and vanilla aromas. Personally i dislike oak but this was not overwhelming. Good structure and acid. Good consentration. Overall a good wine to recommend. I think this wine will profit from a fem more years cellaring to integrate the oak. Next try is …
