Sphaerics Chardonnay on days and nights

One hour slow ox. Intense light golden color. Lemon and lime rind, Asian pear, and subtle hazelnut. Very smooth, dry, oily palate, with fine, silty acidity. Take my rating with a grain of salt. This had little aeration and my wife (who doesn’t enjoy any white wines) was negatively influencing me. Drank this with owner/winemaker Laura Jones. Terry Richardson and his lovely wife Diane drove us to this Sonoma meet up. Very fun afternoon.

30 min decant and consumed alongside the other two 2023 Sphaerics releases. This was the brighest of the bunch. White florals, pear, gunpowder, petrol. Some charred wood and burnt sugar aromas as it warms. Pear, citrus and wet stones on the palate.

Good friend Agelvis used this one as a 'kickoff' white for our wine group last night.....and mostly to quell Heather's lust for whites! Splash double decant given to this one then enjoyed by everyone (but mostly Heather) til gone! I had previously only had the Overline Chard from this maker and quite enjoyed it. Splash double decant. Pale golden straw color. Lemony vanilla cream, rice cake (the unsweet puffed rice), quince, white pear, and subtle macadamia. Dry, creamy palate, with fine acidity. Mark1NPT felt like the palate had lots of citrus and vanilla. I really enjoyed this, but I think I like the lower cost overline a bit better. I’m visiting them next month.

Temporary Living and not the best drinking; 1/30/2025-6/15/2025 : Nice but needs more time

Rich ripe and round but still maintains nice balance.

2023 Sphaerics Lineup (Napa, California) : There is a lovely rounded quality to the tones of Meyer lemons, peaches, nectarines, vanilla beans, some warm dough, poached pears, yellow flowers, and cinnamon spice notes. There is excellent depth that is really attractive and balanced while showing off some poise and stature to the notes. Pale color. Aromatically simple with some melon and floral lift. The palate is hollow without any concentration or longevity, followed by a charry and oaky bitterness from the wood. The finish comes across boozy and high in abv. I was hoping for more at this price.

From the pickup party/reception at Brian and Laura’s. I’m going to give this note relatively short shrift, having just written a longer one on Overline and expecting to do so on If and Only If. Like it’s label mates, there’s a defined style here, the richness and creaminessI love about California but with solid frame and lightness of touch on abv and oak giving a really clean and focused feeling. Tank Sample. This showed the best of the 3 tank samples. I did all 3 tank samples blind, I called each correctly. The "If and Only If" is more complex but, to me, a Chard that will need 10 years, this wine was in great harmony for a barrel sample. Tank sample tasted with owners Laura and Brian. Like Overline this drank best when allowed a few hours air. The nose jumps out of the glass here with an eruption of flinty minerals and stone fruit. Mouth coating creaminess that retains freshness with lemon, mineral and slight reduction carrying from front to finish.
