Medium to dark purple with a touch of garnet. Big fruit bouquet with black cherry and raspberry. A hint of spice developing after 30 minutes. Pallet is a blend of dark fruit, dusty tannins and medium acid with a long finish. Best quaffing with Pizza.

Okay, it started out timid and fruit forward, a round wine that could be lost among a thousand others. Then it began to interact with oxygen and time. Rich concentrated fruit, but lacking in a cohesive structure. nose of creamy bue fruit, chocolate cake, and french oak. matching palate with added latte and red pepper. impressive upfront but unpleasant alcaholic heat and severe tannins on the finish detract from a higher score. fair price with good fruit and structure that will appeal to fans of "BIG" reds, but not my style anymore.

Neben dem Almirez (gekauft), dem Victorino (gekauft) und dem Flagschiff Alabaster (sensationell!) ist der Romanico der erste Wein aus der Erfolgsbodega. Nach nur 6 Monaten Ausbau in Barriques aus franzoesischer Eiche praesentiert sich der Jahrgang 2011 wohlduftend nach Erdbeere, Cassis, etwas Tabak. good, solid Tempranillo, needs a bit of food to balance things out. dark red to black fruit on the nose with a fair amount of earth/dust as well. nicely structured tannins that probably could have stood to be aged for another 2 years or so or decanted for about an hour.

A terrific Tempranillo. It stood up nicely to chicken cacciatore with red pepper flakes. Beautiful rich color and mouthfeel without being obnoxious. Too pricey for my everyday wine list, but will be a 'go to' on my Tempranillo list. And what a pretty label. ;-)

These high ratings are killing me. No way this is 91. On PnP, the heat and acidity is immediately noticeable. After a few minutes (and paired with food), it calms down a bit. My first exposure to the Tinta de Toro grape. Nose initially muted, opened up after an hour to violet, blackberry, cocoa. Big, jammy, tart fruit on the palate, with fine but prominent, mouth-coating tannins. This is great QPR at $15, would be awesome with something very Spanish - grilled lamb chops or a rabbit or chicken paella.

This wine started strong but fizzled out. It got thinner and thinner as we drank it. Still a nice toro but a little disappointed as it had high ratings from the pros. Of course it has a great price on the plus side. Buy the Almirez instead if you want a great wine from this producer.

at 15.99, this is really a treat. i often find trempranillo and rioja a little on the safe side, but the Toro has a distinct terroir with unusual notes. on the nose i'm overwhelmed with salted caramel, melted butter, and black fruit. on the palate i get a i bit of the caramel richness but nothing like the nose. it finished with moderately concentrated black fruit(plums, blackberry) and a maybe a hint of mint leaf. nice long, and chewy finish. …
