Geheimrat Wegeler, Bernkastel Doctor Riesling GG, Mosel

Indicators of Mosel Riesling: Lighter in style compared to the rest of the regions with a focus on florality, minerality and delicacy. Pale lemon in the glass. Searing acidity with a medium (-) alcohol (12%) and just a lick of residual sugar (8 g/l). Stainless steel fermentation on low temperatures to really preserve that freshness and brightness of fruit. Very nice and well-done Rizza.

The 2nd bottle, 9 years after the 1st, exhibits nice acidity, some sweetness, and an infinite depth of flavor, with a notable petroleum note and a never-ending aftertaste. A masterpiece.

This is very fine indeed with the full, wide scaled charm of the vineyard. Very structured with fine acidity and plentiful, yet balanced fruit. #WiesbadenGG

not blind Grapefruit, guave, saline, not too "sweet". Not a typical Riesling GG from Mosel. Balanced. IN a good stage to drink now. For the next 10 years. I would prefer 2017. 91-92

VDP. Grosses Gewachs Tasting (Army and Navy Club, London) : The wine is slightly reductive, flinty, floral, white peach, beautiful palate, bright, citrus, green apple, medium acidity and finish. 13% outstanding

IMW-(mostly)2018 VdP GG tasting (Army&Navy Club- London, UK) : The nose is pristine and perfumed with a demure nature to the tones of peaches, green apples, lemon peels, white fruits, vanilla beans, acacia flowers, crushed rocks, and saline notes. There is good depth and an open-knit quality that belies its youth. The Medium bodied feel shows off the pristine quality of the nose while the high acidity has some bite and refreshing qualities. Fruity, feels a little sweet, apricot, minerals, broad in the mouth and nose - what a great wine!

When I was buying this wine I couldn't understand why "Doctor GG" costs two times more than "Sonnenuhr GG" from the same vintage. I bought both to compare them. From the first sniff until the last drop this wine showed its class. While "Sonnenuhr GG" is just OK dry Riesling, this is true gem and worth the 100% price increase.
