Barkan Vineyards, Classic Cabernet Sauvignon, Galilee

Every bit as good as the 2013 drank last week. Rich, dark, and plenty of flavors--and the price was right.

Last week I opened a bottle (of this) 2013; that was supposedly out of date. Today I bought some 2016 based on the wonderful color, taste, and fruit that the 2013 had. If the 2016 is anywhere near its predecessor this will be a great bottle at a very reasonable price.

This tasting is completely independent of my 11/20/2017 tasting of this wine and vintage. The wine was opened, vinturied, and tasted at room temperature (24 degrees C); grown from northern Israel grapes, with 3 1/2 years of cellaring, this Cabernet gives the tartness and tannins a decent balance with the fruit. Purple ruby hue that opened with slight red fruit and herbal notes that play out on the palate. Nothing complex, but nothing really out of whack. A pleasant easy-drinking Cabernet Sauvignon from Galilee in Israel that we paired with lamb kabobs at a Mediterranean restaurant.

A delicious dry kosher wine. I decanted about an hour and came together. Dry with medium body. Balanced fruit and tart acidity. Smooth tannins and short finish. Goes great with Passover braised meat. Don’t understand negative reviews, were they expecting caymus at 10 bucks? Way better than Manischewitz.

Extremely dry, tannic, and alcoholic. Even letting it breath didn't help much. Medium bodied, too light for a steak, bare heavy enough for pork chops, and not much fruit to speak of. Not even a bargain at $9.59...

13% alcohol, imported by Royal Wine Corp., NYC, from the Galil Vineyards, Northern Israel, plastic foil, appears to be composition cork; medium legs, medium red; nose of alcohol, fruit, citrus; vinturied and tasted right away at ca 18 degrees C, medium bodied, an unusual wine with unexpected complexity from one of the Uber cradles of winemaking; slight tendency toward dryness/bitterness, there is a pithy center with notes of citrus & fruit, not a 'cheap wine', well worth WalMart's $9.95; finish …
