My second and last bottle. Big wine with dark berries in the bouquet and on the palate, luxurious and well dosed French oak and cedar, smoke and licorice. Same on the palate, leather, juicy dark and red berries, good herbs and acidity and round tannin which still has a pleasant bite. Beautiful wine in its young maturity stage now. Can easily last another 3 – 5+ years.

Needed a couple hours in the decanter for the oak and tannins to soften. Very nice but not overly complex. Black and blue fruits, a little oak, which gave it some sweetness. A hint of something floral on the nose. Almost reminded me of a Malbec.

Judging by the "tasting windows", there may not be many bottles of this remaining. That's too bad, because the bottle we had last night with dinner was stellar, and seemed to be at its absolute peak. Dense, dark, textured, intense. Still some noticeable tannins and opened up over several hours in glass. I transferred half to a 375ml bottle and opened several days later and it had developed further so I think this has some years still to run. I preferred the more floral and elegant Malleolus Sanchomartin but this is still a very good wine with a great nose, lots of body and multilayered complexity on the palate. Extraordinary wine. Spice, dark berries, plush with a long finish and well integrated tannins. Opened several hours before drinking but did not decant. Didn’t get to see how it developed as it was too delicious and we finished it in an hour or so. Unable to form a view therefore on how it might develop with age but excellent now and still fruit driven rather than tertiary flavours but without any jammy notes.

Kinda in an odd spot. Got hints of VA mixed with oak notes. Palate is still quite dense with nice fruit though. Didn’t get a lot of air and served outside. I’d probably hold a bit longer or decant prior to drinking. Hard to gauge.

Served with grilled minute steaks. Did not decant. This wine is still going strong. Less fruit forward than other bottles, good acidity, modest tannins and good length. While this wine is at or near its peak, I would recommend drinking up in the next 1-3 years. I think it is beginning to lose a touch of its fruit.

Regular dinner group (@ My place) : Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, sweet spices and good oak. On the palate still a very firm wine with licorice, sweet spices, black fruits, black olives, firm acidity and tannin. My personal guess is the wine needs another 4+ years in the bottle to reach its peak.

Have had this wine on 4 occasions and always rated it about 90. Last night was no exception. Served with grilled fillet mignon, intense blackberry fruit, spice, and touch of wood in the nose and mid-range, moderate to light tannins partially hidden by the fruit, and a nice long finish. 4.5 years since my last note. This wine has improved immensly, The harsh tannins are no longer there. Oak, berries, some vanilla taste. There's still plenty of life in this wine. It will be interesting to see if this gets any better in 3 years. Full bodied and medium finish. Well balanced.

Tasted next to the 2003 Malleolus de Valderramiro. In comparison a little more reserved and structured, less fruit driven, very spicy and powerful. Firmer tannins, but equally well balanced. More depth and precision. Fantastic length. A wonderful wine. 95-97

Coming into its prime at ten years. Still a bit hot like an aussie whose power and muscularity can't ever be completely masked, but there is also an elegance to this wine that reminds me of a young cheval blanc. Double decanted about an hour before serving. Similar to previous tastings of this wine over 4 years, this is an excellent Ribera del Duero. Somewhat modern in style, initial flavors of plums, fruit, and good acidity, followed by a strong mid-range and finish, this wine has lost some of its moderate tannin and developed some complexity. Wine should hold for several years.

Beau nez fumé-sucré. Caramel, sucre d'orge, dattes compotées. En bouche c'est très bon. Tannins bien enrobés presque veloutés. Acidité juste assez présente et retour du léger côté fumé. Un réel plaisir avec un bon steak vieilli et bien gras sur le BBQ.

This wine has now turned a wonderful corner in terns of evolving from the 2006 fruit-powerful lead to a more integrated, sophisticated wine more reminiscent of the 2000. As always, Moro is a master with his two Malleolus estates. The 2006 has a serious tempranillo refinement, with dark and bright cherry center, with less clay outer ring (as in Rioja) and an increasingly complex mixture of oak, earthy greens and velvety tannins. Long finish and round dark red/blueberry fruit finish.

Like a hot Iberian, at a stage now that moves from being perhaps the best young red wine ever (the 2004) to a precocious great that now is going through its phases. 2 hours of decanting was not enough to dissipate the very high alcoholic bite. this is one of the few great young reds I have tasted. UP there with 82 HAut BRion. A bit alcoholic still, the forward fruit is very well blended.
