Very nice now, with a pleasantly effervescent mouth feel, but would benefit from more time - another 5 or 10 years or more could only improve this wine.

Aromas of barley sugar, honey, lemon, baked apple, black tea... full and silky texture, soft acids, lemon notes are sweet and only vaguely bright and tart... beautiful tea, honey and lemon notes mingle on the finish. This feels totally mature, and will probably be best with creamy and slightly spicy dishes.

Cork is soaked all the way to top and leaky despite being properly cellared for past 13+ yrs. Color light gold. Nose has fruit cocktail smell with predominantly peach and some pear. Swishing shows some acid (or maybe the bite of botrytis) but like previously appreciated this is dominated by RS. Not sure if they made an auslese this vintage but actually yes they did, they just called it spatlese. The acid is enough to keep it from being bad but …

Astounding. Sweeter than you’d expect, and very effervescent, but really exceptional. Drink or hold.

Has good body and tropical fruit, but lets down just a bit on the finish with the acidity dropping off so it doesn't finish as clean as the best. Still a good value, but possibly just too rich in syrup fruit this year with less slate and citrus to balance it.

Was concerned when I saw the cork. It was saturated and did crumble when removed. Managed most cork out with almost none into the wine. Golden honey in color. Ripe pear with only the slightest minerality. A true Spaetlase with significant RS.

I tried. The Rieslaner wines do have nice expression in some vintages in the hands of fine producers like Muller-Catoir. But this grape in a ripe vintage like 2005 is just too oily and sweet. Nice dark golden color, interesting nose of candied apricot, petrol, sweet orange peel and honey, but the palate is a bit unctuous and undifferentiated.

This is like a dessert wine in sweetness. there is some acidity but it is overwhelmed by RS.

Totally soaked cork with some mold on top. The wine is totally clean and in perfect condition though. Medium golden/lemon color. Beautiful slightly aged notes of ripe pear, lemon, minerality, some touch of petroleum, mint, some sweet spices and some steel. It's medium+ bodied, dense and has still pretty high acidity with medium+ sweetness. Pretty long finish with nice freshness. A beautifully aged Spätlesw from this great producer. It's at the beginning of its drinking window.

Again a thouroughly soaked cork with signs of seepage. Again a delicious wine that seems not to have been affected. Wonderfully rich and sweet. The only thing keeping this wine from true excellence is that it wants for more acidity. With electric acidity this would be pure gold. As it is, still a very nice drink.

Popped and poured. Cork leaky and soft but not crumbly. Color golden. Nose showing secondary aromas and good dose of TDN Suggesting adolescence (see T Thiese German catalog for discussion). On palate there is rich fruit and overt residual sugar but these are balanced by decent acidity. Finish is ~45 secs. Wasn't planning to open these for awhile (wife) and plan to wait several years to try again. great bargain from Winex

Opened this before dinner without Anwar and Trigirl when they visited us in Michigan. Purchased off winebid a few years ago for $20. This was showing very well. Round and well balanced with just the right amount of everything. Good tropical fruit notes. Moderately sweet. Creamy finish. 93 points.

Quick note. Popped and poured. Cork had leaked a little and disintegrated during opening. Color golden, nose and palate rich and layered. Finish long. I agree with others that with a bit more acidity this might rate higher, but I think it is pretty darn good as is. I also agree that this will get even better with time. I think (hope) that the corks will be ok despite their crumbliness

nose - petrol, honey, flowers mouth - syrupy rich, peache/nectarine, with late coming round acidity. would be better balanced with even more acidity, IMHO

Still no faith in the corks used here, and OTOH this wine needs time. So the options appear to be take a chance with the cork or open this maybe a week in advance. Relatively simple sweetness and apricot give way to more nuanced orange, tangerine, and sweet cream after several days in my fridge. A wine that deserves time but may not have been packaged for the needed journey.

Slightly disappointing compared to previous bottles I've opened. Delicious apple, peach and white fruited flavours accented by a nice florality and touches of honey and smoke, but it comes across a bit creamy and soft without the precision and cut I enjoyed so much in other bottles of this.

This was a very slight leaker I found while going through my locker, not a great cork, kind of soft and squishy. But the wine was in good shape, decent depth, a couple of nice layers of complexity, bit of minerality through the finish. At colder temps there was good acidity and nice balance, becoming a little flabby as the glass warmed. Remaining bottles should be very nice in a decade or so.

Bottles arrived and this one had a slightly protruding cork, so I put it right into the fridge. This is an excellent Spat and I agree with the other tasters as to the Auslesen richness. Dense, sweet, but I don't find it tropical. Heady apricot and sweetest apple. Crystaline fruit quality. Long finish of lime zest goes on and on. Very nice indeed, drinking so well now but hard to even guess how long this lasts.

Doesn't hit the staggering heights of the last bottle I opened, but delicious nonetheless with an array of bright tropical and citrus fruit flecked with floral and mineral notes, and developing smoky/petrol elements that become more prominent with time. Very rich, Auslese-like but with the acidity balancing the sweetness nicely and making it a very pleasant companion for food.

Deutschland (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA) : Tremendously complex and elegant on the nose with notes of resin, yellow fruits, flowers, and melon. The flavors are really complex on the palate with notes of pineapple, crushed stones, and stone fruits. This wine is dense with tremendous persistence and a stunning texture throughout. More radiant and detailed than the Prums at this stage but not quite as effortless.

Spectacular. Gorgeous primary fruit, minerality, floral notes and very subtle hints of honey woven into the background, all in a seamless and polished package that's rich (and easily Auslese in ripeness/density) but perfectly balanced with fantastic acidity keeping it precise and very light.

nose: bits of petrol hit right off, but it blows off into nice tart tones of sour apples, peaches, some slate tones and bits of white florals taste: the tartness carries through on the palate with sour apples, peaches, mineral tones, some citrus fruits and bits of white florals overall: A really fun riesling to drink right now, but obviously needs time. Not everything is in full swing, but what is there right now is excellent with a great nose …

Wineflock - Rieslings from Anywhere, Anytime (David's) : Group #2, My #3 - Pale yellow color with green notes. Pale nose of sour apple and just a hint of petrol - nice. Rich slightly sweet green apple with a lingering finish. A bit light on its feet and became almost a bit simple with air.
