Pichot, Vouvray, Coteau Biche Sec

Having just tried one, I would politely disagree with the older notes, which admittedly are pretty ancient! I discovered this domain, which I had never heard of, thanks to Chris Kissack's recent notes. This is one of two older wines I bought direct, the other being Le Peu de La Moriette, a demi-sec. This was never an amazing Vouvray, but two years ago this struck me as great QPR. Now on the downhill slide (I was surprised to find a bottle in the bowels), but not without interest. Citrus on the nose, mint and honeysuckle in the mid-to-back bits as it expands. Lacking in acid and minerality, it's now got a palate as soft and flabby as a John C. Reilly character. This is the most widely available Vouvray here in Sydney. It can usually be had for $50-$75 a bottle at many of the nicer restaurants in town. Count this as about five 89 scores since I've had it so many times with so many different Asian cuisines. Lisdillon is correct. Good, but not great. I've had better at the price, it just lacked the richness that I expect from Vouvray.
