Most explosive nose for all the Jamet tonight, a little wild too which I loved. Unfortunately tannins were a bit uneven. Not as good as last bottle a few years back.

Same bottle as Melvin and PCLin. Paired against the 01 COte Brune, this was more powerful with clearly richer and darker fruit but also less refined. A bit burly and rustic even. Good length though. 93-94

Jamet night : Made in a darker vein, similar to the warm vintages but the extra years gave it the wild, smoky tobacco and mocha nose that I associate with Jamet that became more obvious with air. Good depth but slightly rustic for my preference, not as explosive as the bottle two years ago.

Decanted for one hour. Notes of barnyard, smoked meat. Very typical of a mature Syrah. Mid-palate a bit hollow and a short finish. Based on the stellar 2007 I had a couple of years ago, I was expecting more.

Needed some time, initially felt a bit thin, but then showed lovely floral, earthy aromas, and cherry, blackberry, a touch of olive. A very lovely example, not reaching the greats of Jamet, but still excellent. 93-94

Slight fade at the edge. Smokey, earthy nose. Nice dark fruit with hints of smoked meat and sweet herbs. At a nice spot now but leave a few more years if wish more tertiary characteristics to develop.

Gorgeous nose with quintessential Jamet character, very savory notes, pepper, cherries, and some meat. Nice acidity on the palate with cherries, violets, olives, and pepper notes. Long finish. This is drinking absolutely perfectly right now. Super classic, complex, and simply outstanding!

Decanted for 30 minutes and served. A masterclass of beauty this wine with less of the smoky side of a Guigal and more of that wilder, animalistic that is so the signature of Jamet. We love serving these wines to unsuspecting palates especially with age, and this beauty just made our friends go “wow” . Needless to say more this is a magnificent bottle and with easily 20 great years ahead of it. 96-97

93-94 I think I preferred this wine with more youthful exuberance. Softer now but not quite tertiary. Currants, cloves, spices, dark purple/red fruits. Maybe a bit dusty, lacking power or tension.

Half bottle. Opened an hour. Blackberry, bacon, black olive, herbs. At first herbs dominant, then more balanced and delicious. No tannin. Great finish. Next day stewed fruits with animal notes nose. Very long berries and menthol finish, lighter body.

Supertasting 16th August; 8/18/2025-8/19/2025 (Richard's Gaff, Colchester) : Crushed herbs, earthy, deep dark, tannins are ripe and smooth. There is lots to like but it still slightly hidden. 4 hours after opening it needs more air. Opened a bit in the glass. Only one left better wait a few years to open.

Ruby, deep, rusty edge. Earth, garrigue, crushed herbs, deep ripe plummy fruit, tar spice. Very open knit, lovely ripe dark berries, plums and licorice spice, with the dark spiced edge of CR. Smooth, long even palate, sour cherry zest, silky soft tannins. Delicious, at its best.

This is one of the youngest Jamets that I haven't yet tasted, so very nice to fill in a gap there. It's also everything I expected, and maybe even a little bit more. Somewhere between 2005 and 2009, the house style lost most of its rustic charm (though for me, without any overall loss of quality) in favour of a cleaner, more polished take on Côte-Rôtie. Very complex and complete from opening - violets, red fruit, a slightly funky blackberry, damp leaves, tapenade, iodine, a touch of meat juices, white pepper, pleasing hint of sawdust. Medium body with pliant berries, bouncy acids. Violets echo on the finish with an orange peel note, peppery spice. There is a resinous oaky edge to the moderate, refined tannin. Pure Jamet floral magic. This was sensational from the start. We just let it breathe in the bottle for an hour before drinking. Unforgettable violet nose with soft ripe black fruit and a touch of black olives. Energetic, multi-dimensional. Juicy and fresh with precision. The wine kept soaring to new heights with every sip down the last drop. Jamet is Jamet. Flirting with perfection.

Shockingly oaky for this producer. Violets, ripe black cherries, ripe dark plums, coffee grounds, dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla on the nose. About 75/25 primary versus secondary aromas, but even that's higher than I thought for Jamet. Intense, deep and dense nose with some speck, fresh herbs and other ethereal notes. Complex and multi-layered. On the palate fresh in the sense that it starts reaching its peak. JaMayday (Chicago, IL) : One of my favourites tonight. This is firmly structural, with leathery tannins and some residual black fruit. This and the older wines are cut from different cloth; they're far more feral and wilder with more of a rustic structure. Feels old school versus the more polished modern iterations. Intense olive brine on the nose here, with a slightly attenuated palate (that's probably a function of 1996) but an almost incongruously full and intense tannic profile.

Ja-May Day (Bar Parisette) : This really has it all. Aromas that are bright and intensely meaty and layred with green olive, camphor and florals. The palate is effortlessly integrated and delicious and once again with florals, spice, bacon and uniquely some cigar ash. A la the 2001 texturally -- balanced and complete. WOTN.

JaMayday (Chicago, IL) : One of my favourites tonight. This is very much old school, rustic Northern Rhône. Not quite as fruit-driven as the 1995, but the savoury aromatics of blood, smoke, and meat are far more intense here. The profile is still much more black than red, and there's almost a touch of Cornas to this. Firm tannic structure that is in no danger of decline.

Ja-May Day (Bar Parisette) : More dark toned and brooding nose though the meat, pepper and olive can't help but show themselves. A real step up in concentration from the 13 side by side - serious stuff. Flashes of whole cluster spice, florals and olive. Just not seamless yet. 10-15 years to hit it's peak but pretty darn good none the less today.

JaMayday (Chicago, IL) : I liked this more than the 2013 alongside thanks to the wonderful palate here. There's a lot more of the savoury elements on the nose and palate -- smoke, blood, meat, and brine. Versus the 2013, this is also a fair bit darker in terms of the fruit profile and showing a very lovely plush tannic structure. Ja-May Day (Bar Parisette) : Wow, crazy good old school nose of meaty black fruit laced with iron, blood, pepper, olive brine and dried florals. The black fruit is silky and dark round with plenty of concentration even in a tough vintage. Love the complexity, focus and energy as this approaches age 30. At peak.

Opened at Batard in HK. Decanted before serving. Another excellent bottle. No hints of tertiary and drinking really well. Expressive dark fruit, hints of pepper, going down really smoothly. Always a treat and already looking forward to the next one!

Dark opaque purple-garnet. Nose of exotic black pepper, dark plum, beef blood, garrigue, dense earth. Layers of pure racy plum, char, and black pepper with hints of green sauvage on the palate. Ample acidity and firm but smoothed tannin. Long finish of peppery, elegant red plum cut with finely-crushed rock. Wildly fruited, craggy wine bursting with life. Wonderful paired with grilled lamb loin chops.

An incredible private dinner in London : This was opened at the end of an evening after many incredible bottles and deserved more air time but was still reasonably ready for business. Greg's Place (Kitchener, Ontario) : [Tasted Double Blind] This pours medium ruby in the glass with light bricking. The nose blasts creosote, black pepper, campfire, raw lamb, rosemary, dried blueberry, cumin, star anise, and crushed granite. Beautiful, savory nose with notes of dark cherries, olives, and violets. It's very fragrant and has lots of depth. Nice acidity on the palate with dark and some red fruit, cherries, a hint of tart plum, flowers, red cherries, olives, and brine. Long finish. Outstanding wine! Gorgeous aromatics and very complex, this is drinking extremely well right now.

A great thing about this site is I can see that the last time I pulled out a bottle of this was in 2016. I was underwhelmed at the time. But this time (9 years later) it was pretty good. Single blind. Opened at home at 5PM and wine was served 2 hours later. Explosive nose from get-go, animalistic, herbal, and floral, wow nose. Round and substantial mouthfeel, plenty of tannins but they were fine tannins. Layers and layers of fruits coming on. Excellent concentration and depth, fantastic showing tonight, hard to imagine ‘99 Cote Brune would be much better than this. Co-WOTN with ‘04 Chave Hermitage.
