Jean Chartron, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Clos de la Pucelle

Pitch perfect. Just starting to show some nuttiness, but the intense meyer lemon, pastry cream and lime is front and center. Glorious acidity balances the richness. Very sad this is my last btl, but in an amazing spot now.

A very special birthday dinner (Amsterdam) : A powerhouse, but a bit low in its acidity, still some fat and a hint of sweetness; maybe a bit chunky, but combined with a soft seasoned bouquet and a long and tasty finish, there is a lot to explore in this wine.

Faaaantastic. On the nose: wet stone minerality, soft vanilla, lemon oil, lime peel, soft musk, intoxicating perfume. On the palate: fantastic acidity, lemon, lime, lovely density, loads of wet stone...dark and so compelling. Lovely soft lime, vanilla and grapefruit on the finish.

Very nice bold puligny showing well now and for another few more years! Very satisfying - warm yesr tropical fruit hints - liked it the 2nd time Too

Dinner with the Ramonets (Auberge du Vieux Vigneron - Corpeau Burgundy) : This is not a shy wine. Both fleshy and flashy start, and finish that almost delivers on an implied promise of concentration and weight. For now I find this enjoyable, but I think this can really harmonize and unfold into something better, 90+ points, even of not there tonight.

Long lunch with Martinborough winemakers (Martinborough, NZ) : Served blind. We’re enjoying the ‘new regime Chartrons’ and, most recent vintages, the Pucelle is often the top 1er at Chartron. The 2015 is no exception. A bouquet of citrus, pears, blanched almonds, minerals and a touch of baking spice. On palate, I recognised the wine. Rich, fully ripe 2015 fruit, but in the citrus and orchard, not the tropical, fruit spectrum. Good focus and sufficient acidity and minerality to balance the …

Just beautiful. Subtle nose, showing a touch of white peach, a touch of stony minerality; understated and very elegant. In contrast, rather intense on the palate, with sour apple, citrus and a long, mineral finish. Wow.

55? hilarious. in any event, some of these wines started to blend into one another with their supreme mediocrity. NR
