From memory. Stood up overnight. Decanted off sediment for 1h then neck into bottle. Tasted 4h later. Red and black cherries, kirsch, some garrigue and brambles. Medium body with nice acids and medium tannins. Elegant with nice nuances. Still with some grippy tannins. Will open next bottle in 2-5 yrs. 91

On the more modern end of the spectrum. Ripe and still showing traces of what must have been heavy oak in its youth. Dropped off considerably on day 2, suggesting this is likely on the downslope. Doesn't really speak of sangiovese, this seems more like a grenache-based CdP. Cherries and baking spice on the nose; chewy, with a bit of tobacco and underbrush, finishing with very firm, dry tannins. More structure than fruit.

We did not decant wine. Deep rich color, beautiful nose that suggest fruit is alive with many layers of flavor. In the mouth this is a medium plus fruit with substantial depth, spice and complexity. Really a wonderful wine.

Nothing wrong with this wine, except it's not rich, powerful, or typical, and I'd be surprised if it's long-lived. The bouquet is Italian. The taste is Italian. The structure is village burgundy. This is sangiovese grosso at its tamest.

This beauty was brought by my brother to a tasting lunch. Definitely WOTM. The wine has held up beautifully, since my last tasting 7 years ago. Still has a big nose of earth and fruit, the wine has great balance between fruit, acidity and the finish is long and delicious! Won’t get any better and my guess is that it’s downhill from here. Drink up!!

interesting (given other notes), this wine was a powerful brunello with excellent typicity (would have easily picked it as Sangiovese) and really full bodied... I think of Brunello as a mellower wine than most medium age Barolo's but this was bordering on giant (esp. for my tastes, which lean toward elegance)... very nice

The nose showed tart red fruits, plum, undergrowth and herbal tones. On the palate, silky textures were offset by brisk acidity with gripping tannin, tart red fruit and stems. The finish was medium-long with notes of dried red fruits.

Light in color but no signs of bricking. A beautiful wine at its peak. Good not of for next 3-5 years.

This is really good juice. Gift from Dad. Ruby color, nice nose of earth, wood and some spice. The tannins are sweet and smooth while the fruit is of raspberry and a little licorice. Long smooth finish...drinking beautifully.

Red cherries with a little bit of dusty tannin remaining. Some rose & chocolate on board with only a hint of herbaceousness over three hours of air time. Little if any leather or tar. Very pretty and feminine for a brunello. Good to go now, but no hurry to drink up. Paired well with cheese stuffed pasta shells, red sauce, and Italian sausage. Plummy with the meal but not offensively so.

Medium ruby color. Very pretty nose of cedar, thyme, anise, lavender and lots of damp earth. Medium bodied on the palate with red fruit, vanilla and herb, lots of fine tannins. This begun a little thinned out, but after a couple of hours of air took on considerable presence. Plenty of life yet.

Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group - February 2009 (Mi Piaci's in Addison, TX) : WIML91? Tasted February 18, 2009 at an offline. Opened and served immediately. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of berries and potpourri. Good flavors of berries with some added notes of cherries. Light to medium acidity, medium to integrated tannins, medium bodied. Drink or hold over the short term, maybe medium term.

We decanted this wine for about half an hour prior to drinking. Everything about this wine was subtle. Ruby in color and lightening toward the rim. I got faint notes of old leather from the nose. The wine was medium weight on the palate, tart cherry flavors with fine tannin - lots of structure here - the acidity in the wine was bright paired well with food. I did detect a touch of heat on the finish, but not so …

Drank with roasted leg of lamb for Easter dinner. Big nose with violets and cedar. Intense palate with raspberries, plums, licorice and vanilla. Overall outstanding wine, especially for the price. I disagree with the 2000-2006 drinking window derived from the community, which would be short for a Brunello. This wine still has quite a bit of tannin, so while drinking well now, it still has many years of cellar life.

Private note: Jay's TNs: Medium-garnet with orangle flecks. Aromas of mint, red plums, violets, and candied fruit. Medium-bodied, soft wine, with cherry, currant, almost cranberry/tart notes. Tannins there, but it definitely seems like an early drinker. A little alcohol on the finish, tart, showing red fruit.

Light ruby in color, with fabulous deep, complex nose of dense raspberries, red plum, spice, and anise. Just terrific on the palate, with deep intense flavors, very smooth tannins, balanced acidity, and a long satisfying finish. Very tasty stuff. (note from Eric White) #2 wine of the '97 brunello flight at BAWE tasting

A touch too old world for me and already displaying some brown. Brett, leather, ash, clay, ink ... very earthy, low on fruit. If that's what you want in a Brunello, this is for you.

Bright disc. Deep ruby robe with red rim. Moderately intense nose showing earth, spice, leather and black fruit. Medium-bodied on the palate, with medium sweet tannins and similar flavors as for the nose. Medium, smooth finish.
