Lailey Vineyard Impromptu

75% Syrah, 13% Malbec, 12% Petit Verdot. A rare blend for Niagara. Unfortunately Impromtu is no longer made. 13.5% alc. Medium to full bodied. Purple core with some browning throughout. Smoke, dark berry and blueberry aromas, some forest floor. Still fresh new world fruit , nice structure, medium acidity (a touch of tanginess on entry). Not jammy but approaches that line although not a heavy/dense wine. Dusty smooth tannins. Flavours show dark fruits, maybe some slightly stewed cherry notes, pepper, …

Medium to full bodied. Purple core, slight browning on the edges. Smokey/ash , dark berry aromas, some forest floor. Still fresh new world fruit , nice structure, medium acidity all keeps the fruit from being jammy. Dark fruits, pepper, cedar. Decent length to the finish. More mature version, more laid back then last bottle 5 years ago. This has moved along nicely. Still one more in cellar.

This bottle was not as flamboyant. The fruit wasn't as vibrant, yet the acidity was quite rich and intense. Very good structure, and continues to be age-worthy.

Sept. 9 League of Gentlemen Tasting chez moi : This wine has a very Northern Rhone-like flavour profile (Cote Rotie), and incredible depth and structure. This needs time. The wine always gets strong points in these tastings owing to its fruit and complexity. Hold three to five years.

Consistent notes. Drinking beautifully--needs a one hour decant.

Like this big bold flavour. Good finish, will enjoy in a couple of years.

Very consistent with the last bottle I commented on. Brilliant!

Day 2: way more open and linear, I almost liked Day 1 more black pepper more so on the palate loads of acidity the nose is very introxicating very northern rhone, a lot going on, savory, 'sweet' and of course nice tart fruits in there palate can taste hint of syrah 'sweetness' mixed with oak so good balanced but its all light as a feather fruit cool climate syrah Conc: this wine is very well made, aging potential, well look …

Corked / Spoiled

Showed beautifully. Deep, rich, showing some complexity between the black fruits and bacon fat and smoky notes. A gorgeous wine.

One of our group, a person with a fabulous palate, described this as the best New World wine he has ever tasted! This is an incredible wine. Lush, deep, smoky, bacony, sweet, complex, and with a unbelievable finish. Gorgeous.

A voluptuous, rich, Rhone-like Syrah. Hard to believe there is Malbec and Petit Verdot blended in. Very lovely nose of smoke and black fruits. The bacony characteristics of great syrah are starting to show on the palate. A gorgeous wine; this should age and develop beautifully.

Medium to full bodied. Fresh new world fruit with good bordeaux style backbone. Some greenness. Overall nice fruit without being big and jammy and over the top. Cassis, graphite, cedar, darker berry fruit. Nice Slightly grainy tannins. Decent length to the finish. Nice cool climate example.

Excellent, Syrah blend that benefited from an amazing vintage in Niagara, awesome - Dark, full bodied with a nose of plum, blue berry, black fruit, pepper, spice and vanilla, smooth, yet intense, sweet on the palate with terrific length, tasty! (91 Points).
