Bodegas Valdesil Godello Sobre Lías

getting old, still some nice butter notes, not all that crisp. The wine looks straw colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like grapefruit, orange and pear. It tastes like pear, apple and cranberry. The body is light/medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Seems a little more open than last time. At 10C and on it's own and its muted and just winey... With a little air and at 14C this is a nice subtle herby wine. Some lemon but lots of green herbs. Fennel, great acidity, subtlety complex. A touch of mealiness about it too. This should be great with a whole sea bass in the oven?... Lovely with sea bass. Really impressive. Great balance, loved the fruit and the minerality. Really pleasant surprise.

Bibendum Spanish Tasting : Lemon, butter, pear and a touch of earth. Palate is balanced and has good depth to it.

My first Godello. Interesting although not sure its my kind of wine. It does seem like somewhere between a warm climate chardonnay (peaches, pineaple etc) and something greener such as a sauvignon blanc. Im also thinking some similarity with marsanne maybe. Also reminiscent of some of the more age-worthy muscadests. That's a lot of grapes it reminds me of (!) but its new to me so I'm trying to place this. It went quite nicely with a simple grilled asparagus …

Though there was some oak on this? Attractive nose, some creaminess, tight palate with some depth, good length. I like this.

The Iberian Peninsula (My apartment) : My first Godello, and a good start! Fragrant, ever so slightly floral nose, yet very savory on the palate - warm, clean and delicate, like clean cotton in a meadow. Quite lovely and my white WOTN. $22.

Closed off nose. Creamy. Good acidity. Oak on the finish.

The Wine Gang (London) : Lovely aromas of herbs, white flowers and freshly cut grass. Palate is very mineral with bracing acidity. Long. Very classy. Excellent (as are earlier vintages). 17/20.

Great wine. Wonderful balance and integration. Has some richness and roundness of fruit that is offset by a mineral, granite, flinty quality. Best godello I've had.
