Medium garnet colored with a watery sheen (13.5% ABV). The nose of this aged Pinot has medium (+) intensity aromas of dried cherry, baking spice, earthy forest floor, dried mushroom, vanilla bean, blueberry (?), desiccated cranberry and a woodsy note reminiscent of wet tree bark. Light crimson in colour with gentle floral tone of Bing cherries, lemon mint, red flowers, and ripe red plums. There is a lightly carbonic note and some stem. A soft, succulent entry with excellent fruit intensity, dry with a crisp acidity that keeps the wine buoyant. Pale garnet; bright cherried. frisky bouquet, gamey; soft summer red fruits, a freshness & body provides an expansive palate which carries through to a grandstanding finish. Fully ready. This fills out with air - morphing to a flashy, stylised moderne wine.

Cork showing not the slightest bit of age, in perfect condition. Opens with such a faint nose I had to try and try again to pick up anything interesting initially except a a faint dustiness, like the fruit is in a galaxy far far away, in exile. Last bottle of a case bought after tasting in South Africa in 2019. Pale ruby. Red fruit, cinnamon nose. Medium bodied, well balanced, not quite as good as when tasted previously but still drinking well.

2013 vintage

From Coravin to start & drunk over a week. First couple had a lot of funk! on the nose, thought it may have been off but after an hour it went, light translucent red with some age on the rim. Very light with some red fruit in the background & a spicy savoury core, good acidith & a long finish. The couple of glasses once the cork was pulled showed more balance. No rush to drink up but possiby peaking.

This one of the smokiest wines I've ever had. Smells like a rubbery pinotage. It's not my sort of thing but the intensity is good.

2013 vintage

A definite step up from the 2015 which we tasted recently. This is smoother, soft strawberry fruit yet powerful enough to handle sirloin steak and all the trimmings. Very enjoyable.

Fully stained cork with some seepage. No sign of age in colour & no sediment. Slightly off compared to previous bottles but improved with time. Still enjoyable but other bottles have been a lot better.

PnP first glass musty nose & tasted slightly corked. Unpleasant. Left for 24 hours & completely transformed. Fragrant, light but full favoured, balance & long.

Yet another top notch effort from this winery. Other SA wineries may get greater headlines for their Pinots but I think Chamonix are up there with them.

Attractive on the nose with lot of red berry fruit, red flowers - spice and quite expressive. On the palate mineral and powerful, a bit tight again, holding back a little. The finish and texture are pretty impressive. 91-92+

Tasted at the estate and one of our favourites of the day. Pretty solid wine, well made and with a good balance and even at this young age it has an elegance. 2013 was not the best of years too so we can only imagine how good the better vintages would be.
