This stood out for its more floral and refined nose, with red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry lifted by violet and rose petal aromas. Subtle notes of vanilla, cedar and baking spice added complexity. Medium-bodied and finely balanced, with lively acidity and well-integrated oak, it felt fresher and lighter in style than the other reds, which I found far more appealing.

The nose is inviting, with notes of sous bois, black earth and smoked meats. The palate is a little chunky, but full of savoury goodness. The acidity sits off the fruit a little and the finish has some drying astringency. It was actually a very satisfying drink and partnered a sausage casserole most amiably.

Young vibrant wine with a lovely nose of red raspberries, chocolate, and pomegranate. It has a short finish and is not very concentrated. Good value given its cost and this will be a crowd pleaser among Burgundy initiates.

Very Good(-) No flaws or jagged edges. Smooth. This was a bit flat even though there is some nice fruit - dark cherry, ripe dark fruits - and a autumnal earthy core. It just never grabbed my attention and was overall a disappointment. I've got another bottle. Maybe wait a couple more years? 13% abv

Elegant, dense core. Little porcini, emphasizes floral overtones. Enjoy.

A 375 that was redolent with stewed, over ripe fruit and generally undrinkable. Poor quality control even with the Burgundian tendency to dump lesser juice into their half bottles.

Medium ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with ripe wild raspberry, ripe black cherry, forest floor, mushrooms, vanilla, black pepper and violet. Medium (+) taste of wild ripe raspberry, ripe black cherry, forest floor, vanilla, wet leaves licorice, mushrooms and black pepper. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium (-) tannins. Medium body. A very good and well matured Mercurey 1er Cru that could easily be mistaken for a more expensive Burgundy Pinot Noir. Needed an hour to open.

Fruity nose, wonderful mouth feel with plum, dark cherries and well integrated tannins. Seems like a California Pinot in character but that isn't all that bad. Very yummy.

Rose petal on the nose. Then a raspberry compote with an earthy quality. Want more on the finish, but take another sip and there you go. Enjoy.

88-89 Out of 375, double decant a few hours prior Palate: Juicy cherry, brooding dark red cherry, liquored blackberry, black plums with secondary notes of rosewood, green herbs, damp earth. More concentrated grapey fruit. Structure: A streak of high acidity. Fine finish with faintly bitter tannin, a touch of spicy heat, and lasting fruit. Wine is not disjointed despite the fat fruit and high acidity... but still feels overripe. Without the acidity, this would feel a little like a ripe …

A big, lush vintage for this wine. I prefer the leaner, more energetic versions. Tasted blind, I would have guessed a California pinot.

Powerful, full body, full fruit, ample tannins and balanced acidity. Not a typical Pinot, perhaps almost New World in it's expression. Previous reviews are probably correct to identify a wine that needs time to achieve it's potential. Delicious today with a long finish that speaks to the future.

Tannic (as much as a Pinot can be) with nice fruit that shows how good it will be if / once it mellows out. First Burgundy that has spoken to me early on in my exploration of the region. Seems like a solid short-term cellar buy given escalating prices.

This wine is drinking well at a very young age, giving promise to how good this well be in 10 years. Laden with savory cherry fruit that overcomes that tannins of youth, it is sweet, round, and flexes some muscle.

Light translucent ruby in the glass; mature nose that is more about secondary/terciary scents than fruit - for lack of a better descriptive, it smells like Autumn, with undergrowth & decayed leaves. Surprisingly vibrant acidity, red-fruited, decent persistence - actually fairly lively given the age of this wine. I am having Beef Bourguignon for dinner tonight, and this should be a great match for that dish.

A modest 1er reflecting the ripe 1990 vintage, but reflecting old style Faiveley more. Colour fairly deep ruby, losing colour around the edges. Pong on opening, lots of barnyard, is it brett or reduction? Probably, a bit of both as that feral element receded but remained over the evening. Under the funk are aromas of red fruits - particularly ripe plums and raspberries - bramble, underbrush, dry, dusty earth, pipe tobacco and some old dark spices. An impression of lush, …
