Young yet, but with air it’s showing delicious black fruit, leather, pepper, and bay leaf. Has probably another five years or more at peak and then more beyond. Wish I had more.

First of all the CellarTracker “drink by” date for this wine is “waaay” too conservative. Shows lots of “grainy” tannic structure, wonderful depth of developing red and black fruits, nice balance of fruit, tannin and acid; and a long finish. Very “Right Bank” like. Worked perfectly with the baked pasta and pesto shrimp .Drink through 2028+.

Tasted blind and was fairly certain the blend was Cabernet Sauvignon and high proportion of Merlot.. Caberlot is a cross between Cabernet Franc and Merlot, grown exclusively in Podere Il Carnasciale, in Tuscany. There is not detectable pyrazine, more Merlot characteristics than Cab Franc. Not the in-your-face-style Bordeaux blend Tuscans, but slightly more warming than a classic Bordeaux. Fruit forward with fine-grained tannins. Decent juice. (85/100)

This was bought from the list due to a bottle failure. Unfortunately wine showed as rather thin and dilute with some slightly bitter notes. First encounter of hybrid grape varietal crossing Cab Sav with Merlot. Perfectly decent bottle for the mid-week dinner table but was unfortunately totally outclassed when drunk alongside Flaccianello and Isole e Olena Cab Sav Collezione Privata.

Tastes pretty mature, mellow and rounded with soft tannins but still dry, medium acidity finish. Flavours are currant and dark plum, with some red cherry. Complex and interesting with tobacco and leather notes. Not sure what I would have made of this tasted blind, almost like a Bordeaux (left bank) but with more acidity and less earth, also much lighter in colour than a Bordeaux. Interesting and different. Drinking well, this seems about peak. Excellent. After a couple of nights …

Seductive flavors of fruit, flowers and spices, confirmed in the taste, where earthiness is added. Well balanced, vivid by its acidity.

Dark red fruit in nose and taste, spices and good acidity, long finish. A pleasure with power and compact roundness.

This is a lovely smooth delightful wine with medium tannins, not acidic and still good fruit. I would have more of these, sadly only one left which I will keep for another couple of years.

End of the Merlot showdown night at Maison Dakota. Drank in Grassl 1855 and then Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intenisity, with aromas of bell peppers, light florals, red plums. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), fine medium+ tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of spicy bell peppers and herbs, red cherries, darker redcurrant, red plums. Long finish. Good quality. Well-made with all the Merlot …

Much bolder dark cherry and cassis profile with this bottle than the last. Started to fade a bit over the evening. Good to drink up now.

As written before, I have never opened a bad bottle and never been disappointed by this wine. This bottle just confirms that rule. The 2012 Carnasciale is full of deep dark fruit, vivid and balanced tannins and a lovely well behaved but still forward acidity. The wine is both powerful and elegant. The texture as well as the structure is amazing. The length on the finish lasts about a minute or more and is the final proof this effort deserves …

This producer was introduced to me by a dear friend a number of years ago. Still, I have never opened a bad bottle and never been disappointed. Carnasciale represents magnificent wine making to say the least. The 2012 vintage is certainly a good example of what this producer is capable of. It is full of lovely dark fruit, rather explicit but still balanced tannins and a lovely close to strikingly well behaved acidity. The wine reveals both power and elegance. …

This was the nicest well balanced fruit forward, low acidic wine I have had for some time. We both thought the smoothness and amount of fruit (blueberry dominated) was fantastic. I so wish I had more than 3. Off to Italy soon for work so will be looking out for this.

Full of red and dark primary fruit with beautiful and very balanced tannins. This is a marvelous wine with an extremely well-behaved acidity. There is a lot of oohmpf and power, but an elegant structure and texture which you would only find in wines from this producer. I am still amazed this is an "entry level" wine... Just as during my last tasting, I am confident this wine will age well but I would still highly recommend enjoying the primary …

A truly nice experience full of lovly red and dark primary fruit, balanced tannins and a lovely close to strikingly well behaved acidity. The 2012 Carnasciale exhibits both power but also toms of elegance, which is typical for this star producer but cwrtainly more than I would ever dream of expecting from an entry level wine. The texture is amazing and I am confident this wine will age well, still the prmary fruit is too lovely not to be enjoyed …

As lovely as during previous recent tastings of the 2011 vintage, this effort is a total rock stare which never ceases to amaze me. The nose offers up rich fruit - at first dark fruits like Blueberry and dark sweet strawberry and after a while red currant and a whiff of led pencil. The palate is balanced and tells me integration will come given some rest in the cellar. If I can refrain from emptying my cellar, I am looking …

This was a wine that i have looked forward to try out, but was also a bit nervous as it has high praycing. The first evening the nose was really slamming into your face with so many different notes its impossible to tell them apart, on the tongue it was a disappointment as i mostly felt i was like tasting a Fernet-Branca that is what comes in as the closet, and tasted blind i am sure that would have been …

This was great right upon opening, exhibiting a silky mouthfeel on top of a medium-full body. Then it started breaking down after sitting in the glass for more than 30 minutes, becoming increasingly acidic. The wine left in the bottle fared better, exhibiting notes of bell pepper, citrus and some smoke on the nose, and bell pepper and tart currants on the palate, as well as more (understated) bell pepper notes on the finish. After about 75 minutes the nose …

Black cherry, baked strawberry, vanilla, and spicy minerals on the nose. Red fruited, floral, mineral palate with great acidity and delicate tannins. Reminiscent of a well-made Primitivo.
