Wine Access Cabernet Sauvignon Radio Silence

This was a really pleasant surprise. I wasn’t sure how these NDA wines would hold up, but this one was great. Immediately on opening you can smell rich fruits and high quality oak. Smells much more expensive than it is. Taste isn’t quite as good as the nose, but still solid. Fell off a little bit over time, but overall very impressive for the price.

Opened after a 2009 Domaine de Chevalier and the 2018 de Negoce No. 216. This is the best of the 2018/2019 backdoor Napas I bought. Unlike the 216 which has more acidity and red fruit (and needs more time), here it's dark fruit with heaps of depth and at the same time the wine is not overdone in terms of ripeness nor oak. Decanted for about 30 min and drank with a big group at home. Very good depth of silky dark fruit and excellent overall showing, perhaps a touch above the Yesterday Reserve which might have benefited from a proper decant though.

I agree with other tasters that this is overall well made and on the upper end of NDA wines in terms of quality, although in a very heavy/big style which is not necessarily my go-to these days.

Purple flowers balanced by herbal sage give a bit of depth. The palate is consistent with the aromatics. The ripeness and acid are really well balanced, and light silty tannins give good structure to last a solid 5-8 years more. (Day 4 note) Impressive QPR

5/10/23 next bottle check-in: PnP, was just ok, sort of middle of the road cab. Good news is the 15%+ alc did not come across that bad. Had a denegoce274 (on day 2) as previous glasses and the 274 was superior. Will try remainder on 2nd day. As of day1: 90 pts and still underwwhelming vs marketing.. hold up- Wow quite a step up on day2. 92 pts. Better fruit and acid.

What a beautiful wine... Not a lot of fragrance, but just enough to accentuate the sweet blue fruit flavor, red plum, cherry and vanilla. Needs a good hour to open up and you will be rewarded.

Double decanted in the morning and took for dinner at an Argentinian steak house together with an 09 Fieuzal and a 07 Catena Zapata Argentino Malbec. Beautiful showing and very similar to the 09 Fieuzal in terms of depth and complexity, but significantly sweeter of course. I prefer the drier Bdx but there was really not much between them in terms of quality.

30min decant. Had with italian herb grilled chicken. This was way more enjoyable than our last bottle. Had this next to Denegoce OG274 and OG146 and this had more acid and went with food a bit better. Never really opened up. Fine for a Tuesday night sipper, but would not buy again. Update- 3 hours post open weird astringent/ bitterness emerged mid palate. Quite offputting. Negative impact for sure.

Decanted for ~6 hours, intermittently agitated. Nose has lots of dark fruit, some dark cherry, a touch of sweet plum, but overall pretty tight. Full body, medium acid, mellow cherries, raspberry jam but not at all jammy. Finish is slightly oaky chocolate, a touch of drying tannin, currants, and plum. Drink now or hold for ~3 years. 6 hour decant. Based on other favorable reviews this may have been an off bottle. No nose, minimal fruit, heartburn. Wasn't corked, just not good. Loved the 2018 Yesterday, Yesterday Reserve and 2016 Concept album offerings. Will update this review after testing the next Radio Silence bottle. Had our next bottle on 7/5/22. The 2nd bottle was much better. So the first bottle must have had issues.

Had this previously at tastings but wanted to follow an entire bottle over a longer period of time. In the glass this looks clearly older than 2018 with a transparent rim, I guess a result of the micro oxidization and so on. Excellent balance and depth on the palate after a 3h decant. Beautiful wine. Nose was a little muted but the palate was quite enjoyable with some blue fruits. Medium plus body with a creaminess to it. Certainly a nice bang for the buck especially if you can stack coupons on Wine Access.
