1 hour decant. Big and rich with great depth. Enjoyed over about 2 hours and no signs of oxidation. In a good window now but seems to have years left.

Dark berries in the bouquet. On the palate firm and tasty, dark berries, medium+ juicy acidity, some well dosed oak and some pleasant bitterness in the finish. In its early maturity stage.

This is really serious wine, previously underestimated by me due to relativity (the spectacular previous vintage and material difference in varietal composition therewith). Decant for three hours and compare blind with Bordeaux. Best wishes facing reality. A little bit of everything: fruit, dryness, sweetness, and savoriness. Raspberry liqueur. I was outspoken about this vintage, and I am now correcting my mistake (with no remorse for the truly special 2015, a totally different animal).

Imbibed with cheese plate, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, mild Italian sausage, broccoli charred in soy sauce, and mixed greens with Melissa d'Arabian dressing. An excellent match to say the least. I was not a fan of this wine years ago - it was inferior to the 2015 - but right now the 2016 is in the perfect window! Salute.

Apparently 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, and 1% Carmenère. Selected to ride out the storm with the biggest bone-in ribeye that I have ever seen. As noted on this platform - strangely reminiscent of St. Julien - at least the finish. Again, St. Julien is turning into my favorite Bordeaux appellation. Over the last year, Beychevelle and Langoa-Barton have been blowing me away. Raspberry liqueur. Graphite. Minerality. Sweet, unlit cigar.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC) : Double blind. Deep crimson red color. Opens with aromas of black fruit, earth and dried herbs. Full-bodied, with plum and currant fruit, with nice earthy tones. Finishes with good length. Develops a bright, lifted floral note with time in the glass. I initially thought St. Julien, but that floral quality led me to guess Pauillac, and in terms of age, I had it at 2015/2016. My wine of the flight. (R&D)

Cassis and tobacco on nose. Concentrated cassis, herb and bell pepper comes through on the taste. I would’ve guessed this is a right Bank St Emilion. Drinking beautifully now. Well done.

I'm rating this the same as Clos Apalta because i found the greenness a lot more balanced in the Petit Clos. It had creamy cassis, plums and red cherry. Quite floral earthy. Also some green bell pepper and mushrooms. The palate was fresh and had a very balanced structure, it had some greenness but just the right amount and dried tangerine peel. Really nice wine.

No decant and seemed a little tight / one dimensional, but all the bones were there. On day 2 (1/3 bottle remaining) this wine was on another level. Big with great balance.
