Give it about 2 hours of air, and it is all dark fruit and truffles, with silky tannins. A joy to drink.

Amazing! What a youthful, fantastic wine! Amazing nose. But palate - extraordinary. Cherry, with cherry stone, some coolness, like from mint or eucalyptus. Stunning!

Decanted wine for 90 minutes and enjoyed over the next few hours. In a really good place right now. Subtle but still has some red fruit on the palate. Elegant finish that should hold for the next few years.

Presented to me double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core and rust colored rim; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of light sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and drying fruits: lightly stewed blackberries, black cherry, plums, tobacco, dried green herbs, old fine wood, vanilla and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ …

Same bottle as Melvin and DIbbs. Pale red with slight browning towards the rim. Earthy notes with some dark fruit. Medium (+) tannins. This was pnp. This was obviously a mature wine but I could not believe how much tannin this still had. I was convinced this could not be a Bdx with this amount of tannin, and hence guessed 90s Barolo. First time mistaking a 80s Bdx for a Barolo blind...

Some good wines : Brought for a friend. Much more open than a bottle a couple of years back, this was good to go on pop and pour. Superb floral nose, palate was so incredibly lush and youthful that some guessed Napa from '00s. Some plummy fruit developed with air. Not the most complex but a hedonistic and pleasurable wine.

Delicious old Bdx aromas with blackcurrant, leather, liquorice and something green. Light weighted and lush, with some structure. A lot more developed, and not as good as, a bottle tasted two years ago.

Did not decant and it was an error, however, the wine was fabulous. A better score if decanted, sediment settled and without having been driven around in the car right before drinking. Still, an amazing wine and little higher score of better conditions. PS Drink The Rainbow

Second bottle of this and both have showed incredibly well. Was part of a six bottle single blind right bank Bordeaux tasting. Two Canon’s (2001, 2014), 2015 Maillet, 1997 Angelus, and 2014 Pape Clement. L’Evangile ended up being wine of the night, a very close first to the Angelus. The L’Evangile was in a much better drinking window and had everything you could want from the Right Bank. Lovely vanilla and creme nose, almost seductive. Still had solid structure with …

On first opening this had a staggeringly good crème de cassis nose. However as it opened up over a three hour lunch some raisiny sur maturité started to show. A bit worrying, though better with food than on its own.

Tasted blind. Dried herb greenness coupled with plum compote. Not as good on the palate as it was on the nose, Elegant and smooth but short. I think I’d have preferred it 4-5 years ago.

Presque 2 ans depuis dernière bouteille. Ma note de janvier 2022 s’applique tout à fait. Le vin semble être sur son plateau de maturité, avec encore du fruit mais aussi des arômes plus secondaires. Excellent.

I really liked this one right off the bat. Got a very nice ripe and sweet red fruited core, really aromatic and complex. Rather seductive and sensual vibes, and I didn’t pick up too much greens/pyrazines on this. Silky palate too, and there is really not much grip left in the mouth.

Boxing day at Caroline's : Brought for a friend. Think the crowd had difficulty telling which was the new-world wine between this and the Dominus. Savoury but with a lush palate. Dark, slightly plummy fruit that was not very expressive and vibrant, especially alongside the Dominus and ‘90 Pape Clement.

Glorious Waterside Inn (The Waterside Inn, Bray) : Great wine and one to hunt down. Testament to this is that it followed in the wake of the magical 1985 Beychevelle ( Papies 96) and sang too. Decanted and served and it was singing from start and impressively how ready it is now. Rad fruits, soft dark edge , just turning secondary, just so good at this stage as the fruit has a good weight and life and drives the wine …

From an owc purchased on release. Quite lush and rich with hint of port-like sensation that was found in a few 75 and 82 L’evangile I had in the past. It was quite vibrant and fresh on the palate but just lacking that bit of cohesiveness and integration on the palate.

An easy afternoon with close friends (@ PdV) : Deep and exclusive bouquet with cherries, dark berries, toast, smoke and vanilla. Same on the palate, beautiful dark fruits, laurel, licorice, complexity, beautifully fresh acidity and a touch of sweetness. Beautifully round tannin with a soft bite. Expressive. The wine is still developing for the better.

The 2006 Chateau L'Evangile suprised me. While not widely regarded as a great year, this managed to be my wine of the night. It was bold and fully mature with just a short decant required to open up the aromas of cigar box, tobacco, leather, and a backing of black fruit. The palate was just finishing its youthful stage and moving into a spicy, fruity, and bold experience. While not ideal for the very herbacious lamb of our dinner, this …

Pale dark ruby. Cacao, old chocolate, old cab notes, leather, leaves, earthy perfume, complex--kept changing and evolving with various phases. Med. body, tannins resolved, really nice even if just a touch sour in the back. Fantastic at this age. Guessed Right bank from the '90's!!! (did not expect '59!) 5th place. Lawry's DD TOC Blind.

The wine releases an intense and alluring aroma of ripe fruits, cassis, and black currant, with subtle hints of spice and tobacco. The wine is full-bodied and rich, with a velvety texture that is perfectly balanced by the wine's acidity and well-structured tannins. The flavors are complex and multi-layered, with notes of dark fruit, black cherry, and hints of chocolate and earth.

Dark and masculine Bdx aromas with leather, smoke, liquorice and something green. Full bodied, and very tannic for a Pomerol of this age. I actually guessed it was a Graves. Developed positively in the glass over three hours.

It was good, not bad, but not nearly up to the expectations I had. Tasted like most of the fruit and acid had been stripped away recently. It once had life and now its partially gone. But more importantly being only 16 years old, likely not at the top of anyone's list even when it was in its prime.

Moët Hennessy Portfolio Tasting (10 Cases, London) : This requires a bit of decant to get to its full stride. Maybe 30-60 mins as the wine improved quite a lot with time in the glass from the initial taste. Tasted double blind from a small capped bottle. Really deep, broader than the 89 VCC, deep and dark. Pretty fruit, spice and some cedar, maybe some florals. Soy. Impressive. Palate is excellent - so elegant. Compelling fruit and savory notes, nutty. Great soy and a bit of carob, florals. Long tannin finish - great soy. Wide and strutting. This is sneaky. Still lots of structure and tannins. Probably another 20 til peak. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - …

Pomerol night (Chicago, IL) : A fantastic showing of this wine; no pyrazines but a bit of cedar and smoke here, supplemented by plenty of plummy fruit. Spicy and aromatically complex. The palate is a continuation of all of this; it's a little less obvious than the outstanding 1990, in that there are more nuances and flavours here. A very slight bit of funk comes into play here as well.

Double decanted off the sediment at 4PM, and then decanted again at 7:30 about a half hour before drinking. Lovely and robust nose of rich loamy soil and tobacco, dark berry fruit and cassis, and something floral too. An expressive and well composed nose, very classy and elegant. Served alongside an 85 Conseillante and this was comparably less robust, and more elegant, but also less explosive aromatically. Graceful and silky on the palate, with a complex array of flavors that …

This took 45-60 minutes to open up. Initially a bit muted and simple on the nose, but air helped to pick up intensity and depth with an array of fresh and dried fruits, tobacco and spice. The palate has pristine balance with a elegant posture for Pomerol. Great concentration for a 30+ year old wine. Terrific.
