Domaine David Clark Dinner with David Clark (Sun Street Hotel, Liverpool Street, London) : Nose shows some plum flesh, a little star anise and something a little lactic. Palate much more giving that its flight mate. Mature and rich.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs -med dark red no browning/clearing -moderately aromatic black cherry some stoniness faint hint of oak -med acidity, med weight with almost crystalline stony sweet black cherry sappy intensity, moderate length finish with faint oak -still youngish, nice power without weight, village-level complexity but structurally more impressive with a bit of a wow factor

What a lovely wine this has turned out to be. Bright hit of ripe cherries and a tang of something stony on the nose, backed up with baked spice bread aromas and some hints of turned earth starting to come out with air. Round and robust in the mouth, though not heavy, it has impressive depth of mid-palate and, while not terribly complex, holds your interest through the respectable finish. Really impressive stuff considering the vintage and the fact that it's merely a village lieu-dit. The map shows the vineyard on the Chambolle border, which makes sense because this has a lot of Chambolle characteristics although maybe a bit tougher and more muscular. It's got pure red fruit with more than the usual level of flesh and dimension for the vintage, laced with an interesting crushed-rock minerality that becomes more and more apparent with air.
