Excellent. Just excellent. Rich, full bodied. If I had this blind I would not have picked this as a Riesling. Takes no prisoners.

As you may know, the 2020 vintage in Alsace was not spectacular. Good yes, but the drought was a real bitch. This is quite evident in this wine and I really wonder what were these people at Wine Advocate smoking when they gave it 100 points. Moderate lemon in the glass. First time with this wine. Notes of apricot and a clear, distinct mineral note. There is some weight on the palate and and was better as the wine got a tad warmer in glass. Perfect Is this a 99-100 pt wine? Not for me anyways. I prefer the St. Hune I had a few months back.

Riesling from the very steep Grand Cru site Rangen in Thann grown on volcanic soil, in the very south of Elsass, 13.5% vol. Restaurant Hotel de France, Thann. PnP, needs 20 to 30 minutes to open. Geek night with Alex and Tim et al. (The Presidio, SF) : (blind) Lovely golden hue. Low alcohol, with significant RS, petrol, botrytis - flinty and developed. Complex and persistent. This is really nice! Based on the reduced alcohol and RS, I’m guessing German Spatlese, 1990? Actually ’98 Zind Humbrecht Clos st. Urbain, Rangen de Thann Grand Cru Riesling, Alsace - My read on the alcohol was off - it’s 13.1%

Pale apricot color, intense bitter orange notes, with toasted almond and honeysuckle. Long finish. Presents as off-dry with less RS than I expected. A tough wine to match with food at this stage, though worked well with charcuterie. Fully mature. Will hold, but no need to wait on this one.

Had forgotten that it was only a month ago since we last had this. A great bottle. Dark amber gold colour. Oily texture - not exactly a typical Riesling. Very exotic notes of lychee and mango. Incredibly dense and long.

Golden colour. Slight notes of petrol combined with an almost Gewürztraminer like lycee fruit flavour. High viscosity - almost oily. Fascinating complexity and depth. Very long aftertaste.

Right in the sweet spot for Alsace. Medium golden color, viscous, but lively in aroma and on the palate. A little residual sweetness balanced by firm acidity. This is like wine made from wildflower honey, and a beautiful match for a spicy Sichuan pork noodle soup.

Absolutely wonderful! Rich and sweet, yet dry with minerals....botrytis-like honey, exotic tropical fruit, dried apricots, orange creamsicle, tobacco spice, slight slight petrol. This is the "other side" of Riesling....should continue to age well forever.

Very golden colour, possibly a bit prematurely aged. Very good nonetheless with exotic perfume of peach/cream/orange rhind. Palate very well balanced, quite opulent no shortage of concentration. Other bottles may be fresher as this one sat on retail shelf for some years.

The Day After...and my first Giacosa (Count's Manor) : Upon opening - botrytis and honey notes but with time it became more tropical and sweet, the palate on the other hand became crisper and drier with time, showing mineral, red currant, thick oily wine. the minus was in the finish which was bit shorter than expected - but thats nitpicking. delicious wine!
