DeMorgenzon, Reserve Chardonnay, Stellenbosch

Viel een beetje tegen, had iets meer ontwikkeling verwacht. Weinig fruit maar ook geen tertiaire tonen.

Very nice. Deeper yellow in glass. Beginning to show a bit of age in a good way, with rich nose and palate. Aged citrus, bit of caramel lurking, (LIVONIETISR--'butter & smoke') yellow stone fruit sneaking in with the richness, as others note. Good acidity balancing the fruit and quite a long finish that shifts back and forth with fruit and acidity. A bold and complex chardonnay done well, it’s clearly top shelf stuff. Modern in a way, at least in terms of precision and cleanness. Despite its size and the noticeable heat on the finish, it has freshness and vigor, manages to be full-bodied and airy at the same time. So skillfully crafted. On nose yellow apples, peaches, citrus, butter, smoke. Serious and balanced wine with fresh acidity. Rich and opulent wine with ageing potential.

Burnished gold; initially oak dominates, but mellows, spicy, power-packed; on first sip & subsequently an odd twist, then plenty of clean fruit & counter-balancing acidity, combining to provide an intensity. Forceful finish. Will drink well for a few more years. Needed 15 minutes to clear up bottle stink.

Straw, bright and clear. Great intensity and liveliness. Citrus, melon, apple. No tropical notes. Long, excellent acidity. Fresh. Good value. Depth and concentration is impressive.

Puissant et intense, on ne fait pas dans la finesse ici mais ça fonctionne. Boisé et fruité, super aromatique mais pas mou, une certaine tension et une acidité sentie le rende accessible...un vin de garde, serait étonnant de le revoir dans 5-7 ans!

South African wine tour - Day three (Stellenbosch) : Buttered toast, smoked peaches, lemons, juicy, fleshy, softly enjoyable. Well made, uncomplicated. Time. Good but not for me.

Terroir-istes Local - Chardonnay, Stellenbosch (Bishopscourt) : (Tasted Blind): It is light yellow in colour. The nose reveals lemon, orange, blossom, white almond, and a slight savoury note. The palate is open and intense, with power and ripe fruits leading to a rich mid-palate balanced by crisp acidity and judiciously used oak that integrates well. It features plenty of vanilla, lemon curd, yellow apple and meringue pie.

This is full throttle oaky chardonnay, powerful and intense, that need time to integrate to oak better. Good potential. 91p for now.

Beginning to develop v nicely

Very 'typical' of new world Chardonnay BUT very well executed. I would say has a long way to go and might get more complex

Atkin Chardonnay Comparative tasting (Lismore) : (Tasted Blind): Light yellow colour. A youthful wine with lighter, ethereal aromas of lemon zest and lemon rind, forelle pear and some hints of Gala apple.
