It's a well-made wine. Other reviewers describe a bit of tartness, and I get that and also some of the Cayuse funk. It's just not my style and I probably wouldn't buy again, not quality, just personal preference.

Nice wine. Got better with air. Filled out, subtle touch of barnyard. A glass the 2nd night was good too.

Lighter style than other Cayuse products. Intense berry flavors and a pleasantly tart finish. At peak or slightly past, drink up.

Finish doesn't quite live up to the nose, but sure has a bit of good funk going on.

Popped and poured...consumed over a couple hours among other wines...very much in "barnyard" category if you like the style...medium finish with minimal tannins...don't think it will improve much from here.

Opened but not decanted at a Turkish restaurant with my wine group. An OK wine, but it has some off putting flavors on the finish that never went away and cost the bottle a few rating points.

Crimson in color. 14.1% ABV. A blend of Syrah, Grenache and Tempranillo. Savory nose of red fruits, umami, olive tapenade and citrus. Medium body with tremendous acidity. Fresh and vibrant with structure and power in spades. Cherries, soy sauce, olive brine and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. No Girls on a budget and absolutely delicious. Best over the next 2-4 years.

Starts with more floral roiboos tea, geranium, candied rhubarb, and dried cherry. Then turns more sauvage with cured meat, mushroom, and roasted plums. Flavor profile is a monolithic leather, coffee, blueberry, doused with heavily herbal overtones. Finishes bitter. Not my cup of tea.

Nose: game, bacon fat, barnyard, funk, wet forest floor, mushroom, red fruit, smoked meat; sooo expressive and complex Palate: dried cherry, smoked meat, bay leaf, dried herbs; med acid, slightly tart; med+ body Overall: love the nose, wish the palate was as expressive and complex as the nose; it’s also a little tart

Method: pop and pour; Cab glass; cellar temp Look: medium- ruby with magenta rim Nose: strawberry fruit leather, wet strawberry leaves, rhubarb, horse saddle, barnyard, beef jerky; expressive and very complex Palate:strawberry fruit leather, rhubarb, peat, dead leaves; long+ finish of leather, peppery arugula, dried herbs / dried bay leaf, peat, faint beef jerky, dead leaves; dry; medium body; medium- finer suede tannins; medium+ acidity Overall thought: Incredibly complex -- so much so that it's hard to track all of …

-- Popped and poured -- -- tasted over a couple hours at a restaurant -- Well-balanced, with very little tannin, and medium-low to medium acidity. 14.1% alc. is well-hidden. Very savory --- similar to how many Cayuse are quite savory. It was nice, but I would not be interested in paying its regular retail price. This bottle was a gift from Cayuse to their list members a couple years ago.

All blood & iodine; grippy leather, little fruit. Drank more like a RoaC. Can't say I was impressed... this is probably the weakest Liz/Baron offering I've had over the past ~15 years. At least this inaugural release was free? I'm hopeful the 19's are better... Considering I held this to age it, waiting over 2 years for the right moment.

Charred and smoked meats, burnt matchstick. There’s some earth and spice in there but hard to pick it up. Not much nuance. I like earthy and reductive wines but this is too much.

Coravin 6 months ago and as expected very tight. Drank the rest last night and the bright fruit stood out. Delicious, mouth watering and very good with lamb chops.

Decanted 2 hrs. An excellent wine with concentrated dark fruit, black raspberry, plum with notes of crushed stone and herbs. Nice mouthfeel with long satisfying finish. Paired with grilled veal chops.

Big blast of lovely Walla Walla Rocks terroir - olive, dust, iron, sage, blood, soy - accompanied by more subtle fruit - blackberry, boysenberry, raspberry - with cranberry on the palate. Absolutely gorgeous. Although it’s just as good as what I remember when released, I don’t get the sense this will hang around forever since it started off a little lighter and less robust/extracted than mainstays in the Baron/Bourcier line up. 4 easy (out of 5). This was the inaugural …

Funky nose of straw and barn. Taste is saline and olive but with a red fruit presence. Definitely unique. PNP but expected more evolution in the glass. Not bad and looking forward to trying the 2018.

Pop and pour into a decanter. In the glass, clear magenta at the rim, shading to dark purplish-red at the core. On the nose, a pronounced blast of barnyard funk, that lessened somewhat over two hours, but never really went away. On the palate, currants, raspberries, a touch of grenache liqueur, and more funk. This would be a great ringer at a blind old-school-CdP tasting. Be that as it may, right now it's sitting at the edge of my tolerance …

Coravin. I like the wine for its spontaneity, meaning I P&P and served with grilled Berkshire Pork Chops. Funky nose, light color, good balance and probably needs more time in the btl. Will try early next year. Festive.

Great bottle, complex and can only get better. Last post before me said it exactly what this bottle represents. Very impressed. Nose and palette complex and right on target for a great bottle.

The 2017 Double Lucky #8 (a lockdown special for Cayuse customers) is spicy and darkly intense with grilled herbs giving way to crushed blackberries, dried citrus and crushed stone. This is soft and enveloping with bright acidity and vivid ripe strawberry and mineral tones that slowly saturate, adding a lovely tension toward the close. The 2017 tapers off with reverberation of sour citrus that tugs at the cheeks, while leaving a note of sour cherry pits to linger. The Double …

No formal notes, but this was quite good. The wine has a lot of weight but it doesn’t feel heavy and is well balanced by the red fruit and acidity. No excessive hear or alcohol I often get from Grenache.

Method: pop and pour; Grassl 1855; cellar temp Look: medium ruby Nose: Strawberry, raspberry, light manure, barnyard, dried red meat / beef jerky without seasoning, maybe faint fresh dill; very interesting and complex nose Palate: Rhubarb, dried/underripe red fruit (raspberry?); long finish of black pepper, dried herbs, bay leaf, leather; dry; medium body; medium tannin; medium+ acidity Overall thoughts: Lacking fruit (and a bit more bitter than what I'd hope for) and while certainly interesting, it's lacking a bit of …
