Domaine Gauby Côtes du Roussillon Villages Muntada

Medium ruby, opens up in 30‘ the nose is eixh, black fruit, ink, burned rubber, good acidity, tannins, inky and leathery a bit austere, medium finish, very interesting wine

From magnum. Clear garnet. Decanted for 2 hrs. Nose of vanilla, raspberries, tobacco and wet slate. Palette is of cherry and plum with a distinctive leathery and mineral finish. Fruit and flavour is good but acidy feels out of sync and finish is thin. I had high hopes for this clearly well-made wine but underperformed compared with expectations and QPR. Either at end of drinking window or on the decline.

Looking at other people's notes this bottle may have been flawed. Blind tasted. Nose was not too expressive. Kirsch and dried fruit, raisiny, on the palate. There was some alcohol bite despite the 13.5% on the label. It tasted a bit volatile to me and out of balance. Would love to try again but not at the current price! Thanks GG for opening this..

No proper notes taken but the wine went down very fast. Very young still, concentrated fruit and mineral notes, complex. Very compelling wine and very well proportioned.

Dark ruby, extremely youthful color. Same impression on the nose which displays fresh cherry and berry fruit alongside lovely florality and herbal scents. Med+ bodied with vibrant fruit, firm tannins and high acidity. long aftertaste. The heat of the vintage is by no means evident here. Excellent wine in need of further aging.

Nose of black fruit, on the palate scorched earth, smoke, plums with a silky texture. Really quite good.

Fresh, very young, full of fruits in the nose, with medium body and lovely tannins. Mineral, graphite aftertaste... long one. Can't believe it's from hot vintage...

Superb wine. Don't be fooled by the vintage, it is incredibly fresh with just the right acidity. Long, complex, with a lot of minerality. Elegant. Stuff for classicists. Wonderful now, but should age very gracefully. 4/5 stars.
