Much lighter and more acidic than the Moulin-a-vent. Lacked the fruit-forward character of other quality beaujolais I’ve had. Drank with trufffle cacio e pepe bucatini and dry aged steak- was fine but definitely did not match the food, the steak in particular. Wasn’t unpleasant, but wasn’t particularly memorable. Not something I’m itching to revisit, although I may try with Chinese food to see if it pairs better (and/or see if this was just an off bottle).

Cranberries, ripe raspberries, and some Metras funk. Acidity on the attack almost felt lightly carbonated. Long finish.

Pale red. Very minor funk on the nose, and it wasn't there on day 2. Nice red fruit like raspberries. Floral. Minor Brett. Very good, but I have had better Metras.

Interesting day, very interesting day. Opening with a fresh, uncomplicated and great Olivier Horiot Champagne Les Riceys. So, by far, the best producer of Beaujolais: Yvon Metras. This 2012 Fleurie Magnum delivered what is expected of it: freshness, balance, wonderful mix of fruits. Then it started to get serious. A bold and mineral with good acidity 2009 Sine Qua Non Syrah The Thrill of and the king of the night, a simply astonishing 2008 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. When I thought …

Seth gave me a small bottle of this to try on its Day Two. Very pale, like other wines I have had from Métras. The nose is very pretty and hugely floral with hints of pale red fruit and classic gutty Beaujolais dirt. On the palate it's a mess, a brief burst of pale fruit and then the carbonic goût de souris clampdown. Blech.

The nose is perfumed and lithe with crunchy green herbs just edging out some gentle wild strawberry red fruit. Maybe a bit of game bird and spice and cranberry in there as well. The mix is quite harmonious. The palate has similarities to the nose but edges more towards the savory and it even gets a little bitter - just a little more fruit and stuffing and this would be really nice. As it is it's a bit bony but …

very thin, this seemed to have also experienced some secondary ferm in bottle (yeasty aroma, slight carbonation) will give the wine the benefit of the doubt that this was an off bottle.

(Mostly) Chenin Night : Nose of red cherries, raspberries, roses, peppery spice. Juicy and fresh with dusty but structured tannins and vibrant acidity. Loved this, and it went quickly, but it deserved more air, as it got exquisite with air.

Mine. Decanted three hours before the event. At that point it was darker in color with some decaying, mature notes on the nose. Palate was better but it was surprisingly advanced for the vintage. At the tasting: caramelly finish, some VA, decaying yeast, high acid, volatile. Note: Good provenance, personally purchased in Fleurie and hand-carried home. Extremely disappointing.

Bretty, but I can handle a bit alongside gamay. This impressed me more than I thought it might, and felt balanced in its own way. There was a time when I was far more taken with this whole wine genre, but all the same, I enjoyed this bottle more than I thought I would. Didn't regret opening it now (vs further aging).

Rumtopf, Erdbeere, mostig, blumig.

Wine Tasting Group - Natural Wines - Oct 14, 2018 (Katie Aspen's Home) : Decanted for 1 h then back into bottle. Gamay from Fleurie, Beaujolais, France. Green stemmy aromas hit the nose first followed by more green herbs and cranberries. Palate is inverted with ripe cranberries, green stems, and herbs and mild tannins. Elegant and lithe in texture with excellent acids really keep the wine lively. With more air, riper red fruits along the lines of ripe pomegranates come …

red fruit notes most prominent, with clove spice and perfumed notes. a bit thin at the outset, this picks up weight in the midpalate, but fades again heading into the finish. the finish has some bright red fruit that dominates (in an unpleasant way) initially, before the spice and floral notes kick in.

Strong reductive aromas on opening, which blow off after getting some time in the glass and vigorous swirling. Once that blows off, some pretty red fruit emerges, with cooling acidity and some intriguing spicy notes. Good with food, but not convinced this is worth the premium one has to pay and efforts one has to undertake to buy it in light of the hipster brand Metras has become and in light of other things more cheaply and easily available (e.g., …

This bottle showed a little VA initially and as it had time in the decanter it was able to move forward with bright red fruits framed in elegance and poise. Not the best vintage...but certainly an Outstanding wine.

Boy is this reductive upon opening the bottle. Aroma is all rubber tires for a while until it airs out for a couple of hours. (Next time I'll try the trick of vigorously pouring back and forth between two decanters to see if I can speed that up). After the reductive off-aromas wear off, the wine shows lovely red fruited aromas, with a tart cranberry-like thing showing up on the palate. There is an earthy savoriness too on the finish. …

A bit of a disappointment here. Started with a fresh and exciting nose, packed with an array of spicy and floral aromas, and big dose of funk. On the palate, this was firmly in the cranberry spectrum, with a sharp, acidic bite on the finish. Air did this wine no favors, as the aromas got greener and more stalky, and the palate more muddled on the front-end and more angular and tart on the finish. A sad departure from prior …

Popped and poured, stood upright for a week due to sediment. Medium violet-ruby, slight haze. Initially showing reduction, the nose quickly expands into herbaceous red fruits, tilled soil, fresh parsley (& cilantro??), iron & subtle florals. Medium-light body. Under-ripened cherry and raspberry on the palate along with herbaceous green notes and an impression of earthy minerals. Evolves in glass. Moderate-plus acidity and subtle yet deceptively structured tannins on the lasting close. Very nice but needs a few more years.

P&p; gets more expressive over the course of an hour. I really like Seth Rosenberg's note. Pungent aromas of dried and fresh flowers, dried herbs, peppery and cinnamony spice, strawberry/cranberry (this was just faint cranberry until it had some air), and light earth. On the palate, tart citrusy acidity, with flavors that basically match the nose. Nice juicy strawberry and cranberry. The spicy and herbal elements are interesting, almost vermouth-like; they even seem to impart a slight bitterness in the …

Drank this out of the magnum -- elegant, deceptively deep for a wine so light and color and so easy to drink. This wine gained complexity -- the best sip was the last, tasted about six hours after I uncorked the magnum.
