Fleshy and plummy this had silky tannins. Savoury and fresh, there was super balance and structure revealing a fine finish. Infanticide! This is much too young. CHP 90pts

A little stuffy on the nose when first opened, but it opened up nicely over an hour and was still improving. Palate was tertiary with some red and blue fruit, medium + acidity and tannins. Not overly complex, but quite interesting. Nose was a let down at first, but started to show more floral and fruit. I suggest a couple hours decant if you can. It is not likely to improve, but these have a couple more years at least.

Possibly one of the first 3 wines I ever purchased for storage back in 2013 - drank 11 years later. Pop and pour with a quick double decant. Hardly any tannins. Clearly in a developed phase on the nose with lots of tobacco, some mushrooms but with an underlying element of dark fruits still remaining. Whilst quite elegant, there is some structure, but clearly more feminine than many of the 2009 Bordeaux’s that were laced with 100% new oak

Pop and pour. Maybe my last btl was slightly off? Notes from 3 days open. Cork crumbled upon opening, so decanted into an empty btl. On the nose: blackberry, cedar, red earth, a touch of vanilla. On the palate: ok density, lovely acidity and weight. Blackberry, sweet tobacco, a touch of charred meat, and slightly pasty tannin on the close. A very solid bottle. Doesn't have the density of the first wine, but very nice.

Tad disappointed by this second wine of Gruaud Larose! A blend of 54 % CS, Merlot 26 %, CF 13 % and 9 % PV: cherry, tobacco, prune, tobacco leaf, raspberry, oak, blackberry, medium minus body, red fruit finish.

Perfect harmony between black cherry, cassis and smoothend cigar, vanilla after 14y. A great wine! Luckily i still have some bottles!

Bright, fresh, juicy, crisp red fruits with accents of flowers and tobacco are ready to go in this medium-bodied, vibrant, forward wine. Drink from 2023-2032.

Mirroring the tasting notes from a year ago, this is drinking well. In spite of some still youthful notes, this was built to be drunk at a younger age and it does everything a second wine should do. This probably should be drunk over the next 5 years to show it at its best.

The last of my bottles which is a shame; it's in a nice place with surpisingly crisp fruit and tanin to complement and balance mature notes incl leather and cedar. No rush.

This wine was okay but not great. Poured into glasses bout three hours before drinking, it had a pleasant texture and tannins, but not so much fruit or nuance. Didn't stand up well to the loin lamb chops, but was much better with the cheese which followed.

The cork was dry and broke during initial pulling. Drank over three days - recorked in the bottle each day. Black fruit on the nose, some oak on day one. Oak and black fruit on the palate on day one. Day two, oak is gone, charred black fruit on the palate (not enjoyable), tannin settled, low acidity - the charred fruit dominated. An excellent second wine, this is already drinking well with aeration. In a market where second and third wines are grossly overpriced, this still represents good value for money. The nose is lively with delicate aromas of cherry, strawberry and cedar. The palate is a little rustic but well balanced and with a decent finish.

Very expressive nose. Sweet-ish blackberry, with woody notes. Some of the Majik Marker has faded, but the whole wine has softened into a really well integrated wine. Not as punchy and bold as when I purchased this 10 years ago, as expected. What a wonderful wine. I wish I had a case.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Bordeaux, St. Julien : In the bouquet smoky red and black berries and sweet bell pepper. On the palate a textbook classical Bordeaux with red berries, bell pepper and pleasant acidity and tannin.

Really quite open and soft, lovely ripe and easy feel. Some fruit seeds give a savoury touch to black cherry and softer black and perfumed blue fruits. There is a touch of camphor which adds to a sense of freshness. Creamy and soft attack, there is a touch of chalk and a lovely savoury, mineral thread. Very ripe plum and blackberry fruit, speckled spices and some grip. Pretty forward and open, should drink well on release.

Very very deep appearance (short of opaque); youthful purple Medium intensity nose, youthful. Black cherry, blackberry and raspberry fruit, notes of wood shavings, hints of pencil led. Spicy and something meaty. Mint/camphor and clove attack, very smooth, juicy and rounded, showing some lift. Pretty intense acidity, fleshy dark fruits, a sense of fruit skins and a bitter/green, stemmy astringency. Vaporous and spicy, the tannins are ripe to the point of creamy… this is odd. What a delicious wine. Amazing QPR. Deep woody, almost cedar notes on the nose. Blackberry and spice with a little bit of Majik Marker. On the palate this is fantastic. Wonderful balance. Great combo of acid, ripe fruit, tannins and spice. I love this wine. Only one left. 😕

Drinking well right now, but easily has a few years still ahead of it. Funky tobacco, black currants, blackberry, bitter cocoa, graphite, and dark plums. Tannins are still pretty noticeable, but still enough fruit and acidity to stand up to them.

Ripeness of the vintage, but has a good purity of fruit and smooth, gentle tannins and balance. A nice approachable 2009 St Julien, with character. On the beginning of its drinking window.

Gruaud Larose Dinner (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL) : Blackberry, currant and cassis with good spice aromas to balance. Lots of power, very forward and lush. Slightly sweet on finish, but otherwise everything across as reasonably balance. Best starting in 2014 for the following few years.

Upon opening, lots of red fruit but bordering on too much sweetness for me. Some wild cherry without the accompanying acidity. After opening for an hour or so, the sweetness tames and shows hints of cedar, but something about this wine remains out of whack.
