Cantina Terlan, Winkl Sauvignon, Alto Adige

Unusual for an Italian Sauvignon Blanc, this one from northeast Italy includes the following components - a grassy vegetal, gooseberry, grapefruit, and a mouthfeel that is lush and caressing instead of just mouth scrubbing. The net result is not only an interesting and different take, but a good candidate for the best Sauvignon Blanc from Italy.

A strong candidate for the greatest Sauvignon Blanc from Italy. Light yellow color, with exceedingly perfumed aromas of gooseberry, sweet grass, and grapefruit. The sip adds a deliciously juicy lemon/lime and a gently caressing texture. The swallow coats the throat with a near endless aftertaste. Superb by itself and with food after food.

PNP. Cork perfect. Color straw. Nose unmistakeably Sauvignon blanc. Full on cat pee grass and minerals and with some air salinity. Swishing shows lush fruit framed by acid. The acid is scorching, but the fruit is so rich that it tames it. Finish is 30+ seconds. Sipping this almost seems flabby because the fruit is that thick but again acid clears the deck. Not a fan of Sauvignon blanc but I would definitely drink this again. That is high praise …

Light yellow with a delicate green shimmer. The nose reveal citrus fruit, with also apricot and peach. Nice mineralogy in the mouth, with good acidity and persistence fruit taste. A long finish. This is a really good sauvignon

Grassy and herbal nose with exotic fruit notes, some gooseberry, hints of banana. Bright acidity on the palate, refreshing and a bit saline, notes of grapefruit and herbs. Good length. 88-90(+)
