Brief notes from a social event. Earthy base with intense sour cherry fruit. Mineral notes of flint and floral notes of pressed flowers. Nicely juicy palate, balanced with decent concentration. This was round and highly pleasurable, but not as lofty as previous bottles. None the less, probably one of the best vintages for the Blagny rouge.

Very complex with lots of sous bois. Silky palate. Plush fruit, just ripe, some sucrosity. Touch of heat towards the back. Lots of sucrosity. Framing of new oak. Blood and iron towards the backplate. Lingering finish. Better and better with time.

An amazing precise and punch-in-the-face raspberry and rhubarb fruit. Also sour cherry compote. Cool herbal base and layered meaty complexity of smoked meat and dried meat. Adds darker floral perfume. The palate is beautifully sumptuous, not a single hard edge to be found anywhere. Still sufficiently juicy. While I found the palate to be less complex than the nose and didn’t appear to full commit, there is good tension. An outstanding vintage for this wine.

Amazing QPR at $45 a couple years back fr Benchmark. The color was dark ruby w no bricking and the fruit was still quite juicy and big with a touch of smoke and smooth body, although the finish was medium minus. No real burgundy musk to the nose and some thought this was OR pinot in the 10ish year age range. All in all, pretty great for a 20 year pinot bought for a song with still likely much life …

Expressive mix of red and black fruits of medium+ intensity. Palette shows good depth and some rusticity / tannins (compared to the Volnay). Finish is medium+. Would pair really well with food or enjoyed on its own. At tasting with Adele Matrot in New York. 91pts

Translucent brick red. Nose initially red fruits, later smokey, savoury tones. Smooth and elegant in texture with underlying fruit but soft, enveloping tannins leading to a sweet, gentle, haunting finish. Certainly past its youth but not breaking up from old age. Very mature with fruit subdued and hanging loosely on the tannic skeleton.

Fruit of sour cherry and rhubarb and raspberry along with fresh, green herbs. Round palate with lively acids and a highly palatable fresh fruit. The tannin add a firmer structure and figure as a runway for the acidity to unfold. Also appealingly sweet. Consistently a big pleasure to drink.

Tasted at a private La Paulée event in Zurich: 2 consistent bottles. Only brief notes… Meaty base notes with defined and pure sour cherry fruit. Minty herbs add freshness. Juicy, balanced and round palate.

Pure fruit of sour cherry with smoky and meaty overlays. Also pressed herbs with a fresher minty touch. Incredibly fresh palate, nicely fruity and with good tension. Perfectly approachable and already in an amazing spot, but with sufficient structure for easily another 10+ years. A consistently good wine and best bottle so far.

Color is a deep garnet with a ruby rim. The nose feels almost underripe, there’s a certain popcorn smell that hints pyrazines to me, along with some light green notes/stemminess. Otherwise, the nose is meaty but bright, with red cherry, milk chocolate, and dried orange peel. The medium bodied palate is similarly bright and a bit green, with cherry and orange citrus coming through. While I may not seek it out again, this is an interesting bottle that, while a …

Brief notes: Fruit of sour cherry, raspberry compote and brighter accents of rhubarb. Minor raw meaty complexity. Perfume scents, fresh peppermint and wet moss add diverse dimensions and make this a highly appealing wine. The structure is light and mostly relies on acidity. The fruit is mostly sour cherry here. Good balance and decent length. In this category and price bracket a must-have, in my view. Did not decant, but it took easily 30-45min in the glass for this to …

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a 90 minute period. The 2019 “La Pièce sous le Bois” pours a glossy ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, well…the nose is gorgeous, if not downright sexy. Freshly picked, perfectly ripened strawberries, porchini, forest floor and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and …

Orange tinge. Soil, earthy nose overlaid with red fruits (raspberry canes), cherries. Touch of toast. On palate sweetness of fruit and alcohol. Silky texture but only if fruit comes through and the fruit is elusive. Fresh, clean character. Moderate length of finish but at end begins to burn as alcohol comes through. Lacks intensity. Past it?

This is drinking very well. Bright red cherry color. Lovely nose of cherry fruit that's robust and juicy, along with mineral and earth notes. In the mouth, focused, linear, and very pretty, with juicy fruit that coats the palate nicely. A strong hit of acidity with a sappy finish. This is in a really pretty, forward place right now. A-

Really exited about this wine. Have heard a lot lately about the fact that 2003-burghs have tremendous longevity because of the record-warm vintage and the resulting tannic structure of the wines. When I saw this one at my vendor in the '03 vintage, considered by many to be Matrot's most prestigous red, I found out it was time to try a '03 again. Seven years since my last visit with red burgs from this vintage. Back then the late Denis …

Savory infused red berry nose, with some charred oak notes. Very silky and a rich, high viscosity palate that has plenty of energy to prevent it from becoming cloying. This is in a great spot and not closed down like many 05s, but no hurry to drink either as it will age for a while .

92 pts

Just barely "Very good". Light red. Small nose with red berries, restrained PN character and miniscule minerality. On the palate this shows a brilliant transparency, but very little to place in the empty void. Delicious for sure. Acids and red berries in fine balance and slightly bitter tannins á la young wine. Light body, ok finish and *yawn*. I would never buy. If I had bought one, I'd let it rest until ~2020. At Sogo Riedel Bar, Yokohama.
