Tasted next to 2001. The 2023 Suduirat shared a surprising amount of similarities with the 2001 bottling. Very open and expressive directly after opening, and continued to improve. Honey, a fair amount of VA, vanilla yoghurt, peach crumble, oak, creamed corn, crispy toast bread, butter orange jam, sultana and dried apricots. Full bodied and sweet, low acid, decent length. Worked well with Tarte Tatin!

Ausgezeichnet. Trinken von 2026 bis 2075 96 vvPunkte

2023 Vintage Union des Grands Crus : A rushed taste at the end of UGC, but glorious - orange, clover honey, an appealingly quirky savory note to complement the glorious sweetness. Lovely.

Butterscotch announces itself first; rich, caramelized, utterly seductive. Not the bright citrus explosion of some Sauternes, but something deeper, warmer. Honey flows next, liquid gold coating your palate with viscous elegance. Then ginger arrives, not sharp, but warming, adding spice dimension that prevents the sweetness from dominating. Full-bodied with obvious weight, yet the wine feels light on its feet despite its substance. High sweetness meets good balance with acidity. Neither element dominates; both elevate. Faint notes of white flowers, apricot, …

Really incredible. Deep amber color. Strong taste of apricot and preserved lemon. Well balanced acid and sugar still, not overly sweet. Medium aroma, medium acid, high sweetness, high body. Went really well with a German stolen for dessert.

This was a gift from a good friend. Pop and pour on Xmas eve. Gold in color with a thick, viscous consistency and dark citrus notes; ends with a semi sweet finish. Very Good. Interesting to note that I tasted this in 2008 and had no memory of it.

From a 375. Bought on release and cellared since. Opened for Emma's 31st birthday celebration. Cork was saturated, heavy with mold under the capsule and pushed in with attempts to remove it. However, no leakage or ullage. Lovely amber color. Nose of tropical fruits and raciness. Similar flavors. Nice mouth feel and moderately long finish. Going strong even from this bottle with a questionable cork...

Sentimental vintage, but not much give on this bottle. Somewhat flabby and has good tropical fruit and honey notes. Lacking freshness and depth. Consider other producers at this stage.

Cork disintegrated, which was disappointing but not out of the ordinary - use a durand, or at least an ah-so! The color is a fine, deep amber. A nose of candied apricots and apple juice. Deeply, sickly-sweet on the palate - much too much to be enjoyed alone. This wine demands a good blue cheese or pate. I often enjoy sauternes solo, but not this one.

A rich and powerful Sauternes. However, the level of sweetness, and lack of acid, really overpowers. Dates, apples, lemon peel. Its nice, but unbalanced. Tasted at UGCB 2023 vintage - London

Advanced color, dark gold, almost orange. Had me a bit worried and it came out showing those ox'd notes against a few other 88's also out of 375ml. However with some air, the richness and ox integrated into a very good wine. Balanced with some spices and good albeit fading spine.

Dried apricot, peach, marmalade, creme brulee, toffee and spices. A touch of bitterness balanced nicely by the lifted acidity and sweetness. In a good spot right now showing some maturity but no risk keeping this in the cellar for a few more years.

Quite a dark colour with almondy botrytis and crème brûlée nose. Dense and ripe with one dimensional barley sugar flavour. Ok but tastes fully mature, perhaps passed its peak. Still a decent drop that had beaten some of its sugar making it good with cheese.

A remarkable, multifaceted wine. At one moment you smell apricot, another tea, then saffron, creme brûlée… It is kaleidoscopic too, on the palate, and yet exquisitely balanced, excellent acid and perhaps a bit less sweet than usual (I would love to know the sugar content on this). The one constant is the endless finish, tropical fruit (lychee?) that simply goes on and on. Marvelous.

Deep golden bordering on amber in color with slight clearing at the rim. Nose is medium to medium plus intensity with apricot jam, orange marmalade, clover honey, dried apricot, canned peach, hints of sourdough, golden raisin, hints of pistachio. Palate is medium to medium plus acidity, full bodied, marmalade and apricot jam, slightly coppery, honey, canned peach, toasted oats, mango lassi. Medium plus finish. 92 points.

Very dark color which seems consistent with other bottles. From 375ml. Complex cigar wrapper nose with dark sugar and almost smoky notes. The sweetness has become a richness which doesn’t seem as sweet as it probably was when young. Very good and a treat to try this now.

Tasted against '90 Yquem which is a little unfair but it held its own albeit in a different style. Much darker in color than the Yquem. Not nearly as structured nor as fine as the Yquem but there is a beautiful mature sweetness to the wine that is quite alluring. Oily and layered with flavors of dried apricots, brown sugar and dark minerals on the complex finish. A fine Sauternes for current drinking.

This wine has come together nicely. Quite simply: magical! Has all the hallmarks of Suduiraut: herbaceous spiciness and an outstanding plethora of depth and width. Will buy this vintage on sight. Current bottle will last me another 10-15 months, standing, under cork and using Parafilm. I worry less about the presentation of stuff...

Getting to be a bit past prime. No flaws, but the finish is shorter and more generic and the acid is fading. Honey does not dominate the profile though and there is better resolution of citrus, white cherry, lychee, peach. An intellectual wine, but perhaps not one you want to drink a whole bottle of.
