Medium body and medium (-) flavour. An acceptable wine, you’ll find better Valpolicella Classicos. Goes well with lighter Italian dishes as pasta and pizza.

Decanted, tasted over 3 hrs; bottle from secondary market -nearly opaque with moderate browning and clear rim -fully mature aromatic nose, caramel, brandy, ripe fig, alcohol -med acidity, med+ weight fairly dense sappy forest floor and sweet caramel dark berry remnants, med- tannins though sediment gives some grittiness, moderately long finish with less heat than anticipated -on the decline but still pleasurable, this has aged more gracefully than many other amarones

Amarone Families (New York Public Library) : The nose showed crushed, dried flowers, dried black cherry and minerals. With time in the glass, the bouquet expanded and sweetened. On the palate, it was velvety smooth and youthful with dark chocolate, rich black cherry and hints of earthy minerals. The long finish showed bitter cherry and licorice, which seemed to slowly melt away from the palate.

Better than last bottle; Seems to be a fair amount of bottle variation. 7-11 note: rated 89 pts nice, but not up to the other vintages I've had of Allegrini Amarone. Initially the wine was quite closed and kind of disappointing but after 30 min in the glass the wine really opened up! The nose is very refreshing with cool dark and elegant cherry fruit with a hint of freshly ground coffee and a little bit of sewer (in a good way). Drank with flank steak and asparagus to celebrate getting more of our house put back together. Decanted about 40 minutes before the meal and it continues to open up as the night wears on. As mentioned by other reviews, very strong chocolate and mocha. As it opened more, the Amarone raisin taste became more pronounced. Bright reddish maroon, just barely lightening at the rim. A very nice wine, overall, and a good match with the meal.

Continuing to drink down my stash to free up cellar space, I opened this with homemade Italian meatloaf. Deep maroon, slight amber at the rim. Notes of caramel and vanilla; classic raisin/cinnamon/spice box Amarone profile. Sweet and extracted, but not lush, and the midpalate falls a bit short. Showed the best of all my bottles so far. Still a far cry from the 1990 Bertani Amarone, but way better than the last bottle.

Very woody. Smelled and tasted like a tawny Port or possibly Sherry. Surprisingly thin for an Amarone. No way am I buying this again!

Surprisingly reticent nose. 15% alcohol, medium- to full-bodied, good acid balance. On the palate, there is a lot going on -- I picked up spearmint, menthol, creosote, blackberries, and charred meat. The finish turns a bit astringent. This wine is interesting, but too restrained -- Amarone should be richer, fatter, and more decadent. If I were tasting this blind, I would have guessed California Pinot or possibly Zin.
