last of 6 sadly, but drinking so well. Nose of cherries, spice, orange peel, sous bois and soil. Lovely cherry finish, with gentle tannins. This has got to be one of the best VFM wines out there?!

Another great bottle with a huge amount of appeal. Really on the fruit, it is plump, shiny, dark and quite luscious without being excessive. Well made wine that punches above its pay grade in every department, a genuine pleasure. If you know this wine, you know. Yum.

Medium red. Still going strong, bursting out of the glass with an exuberance that I really appreciate. This is the kind of wine you drink and wonder what is it about high level burgundy actually appeals to you when instead you could just drink this. Delightful on a breezy afternoon, with dark cherry and raspberry coulis framed by tart acidity and a hint of something feral to add interest. Yum. A must-buy every year in my opinion. Will last for …

Medium red with a darker fruit profile than I typically seek out in basic Bourgogne rouge. This is rich and fruit-laden, and quite joyful to taste actually, the dark cherry really pops. I prefer a meaner wine, but there is no denying the enjoyment and pleasure that this brings.

Well, Pataille reds continue to be way better than the whites. Really nice concentration, black tea, forest floor, black cherries. Elegant and substantial at the same time for a bourgogne. Damn good.

I have two of these and curiously one is 12,5% and the other i 13%. This bottle is the latter of the two. Nice, easy cherry and strawberry melange on day one, the note is open and approachable, does have a hint of natty funk to it. Previous comments stand re: ‘generic nattiness’ but there’s no denying this is a delicious wine and this bottle was drinking even better than the previous couple. Highly aromatic (sour cherry, blood orange, a bit of funk and musk), with a lot of drive and tension on the palate. Not particularly complex or intellectual, rather in your face ‘drink me i taste good’ which is very welcome.

Similar to previous note, very enjoyable but I am starting to wonder how much I like Pataille's natural style - the last couple of bottles have felt (ironically) a touch anonymous, hidden by a slightly generic 'nattiness' which - whilst far from being intolerable - can be a little wearing.

Last of these and definitely the best. This seems fuller with more dark cherry fruit. The barnyard funk less prominent (but still there in the background), and the acidity better integrated. Decent length and complexity, and so enjoyably easy to drink I was briefly tempted to open another bottle of burg straight after. More balanced and drinking better and than previous bottle drank relatively recently. Lots of sour cherry and red fruit, a little smoke and spice, and only a touch of more naturally inclined funk. Tremendously refreshing when drank at around 14 degrees.

I’m quite tolerant of natural/funky elements but this was a little in the face on day one, though still an attractive wine. On day two the funk and strong citric/blood orange elements had died away a little and felt more balanced overall, though also generally quieter all round. Bright and slightly chewy palate with red fruit and orange. I think this may improve and round out with a few more years.

Entry level Bourgogne (Must & Lees, Warren Street) : A little reduction, a little spritz. Bold fruit, quite classy with a serious side but at the same time with lovely freshness and a fun side. Could drink now, or hold, there is definitely a little structure that pins this together, a backbone that you feel is present. This was not my bottle but fortunately I bought a dozen of them that I have not yet started on.
