Blind tasting. Exceptionally aromatic and complex, this really stood out among the dozen or so wines during the evening. This is a wine to sip on its own rather than drinking with a meal in my eyes. Wine like texture and sweetness but port like complexity. Balsamic notes, well balanced used of oak (was surprised to see that this is not even 2 years old). Very long too. During an Italian blind tasting dinner. This one stood out as it was much lighter in color and not nearly as tannic as the Sanjoveses around it. I thought it was a Grenache due to the sweetness and the aroma profile with Cherry, cinnamon and bakery spices. It turns out that this is (according to the producer website) and Merlot/Aglianico blend. Merlot is mentioned first on the website so I guess this is the dominant grape. Makes sense, as I …
