Nose: plum, iron, vanilla, dark chocolate Notes: decanted for 45 minutes before consuming. It's a pity that there wasn't much floral scent or red fruits in this wine and I would say the ironic elements in the wine were quite prominent. I would describe this as a tad rustic and can't say I enjoyed this too much. Drink: now+ Rating: 87

Wow, just wow. Drinking really well. Lots of tart fruit, great acidity. Red tart cherry, coffee, black licorice. Really delightful. Definitely drink up though. Guessing will start a down slide as no tannin showing at all.

Wonderful all around experience. Opened and let to breath an hour. Deep ruby red. Wonderful dark tones of earth and coffee combined with residual primary floral nose. Beautiful feel in the mouth with silky tannins and persistent complexity as in the nose. Long finish with continuation of the all around enjoyment.

Dark ruby color and fairly clear. Earthy nose. Tasted ripe and very smooth, but the fruit is beginning to fade. Drink up.

Went out to Isaaco's Kitchen in St. Charles for an impromptu dinner and ran into friends. I sent over a glass of 2009 Dehlinger Estate Chardonnay, he sent over a glass of this. Opaque crimson core. Gorgeous bouquet featuring rose petals, lavender, florals and black berries, plum and dark fruit. Gorgeous. Full-bodied, with softened, approachable tannins and flavors of rose petals, cherry, red currants, plum and dark fruit. Turns slightly austere on the finish...would otherwise merit a higher score. Thanks …

Initially reticent on opening, the nose slowly developed over half an hour or so into a dark earth and leather unpinned with dried cherries. Dense and complex on the palate carrying through the dark dried cherry and leather flavours. Delicious and lingering if slightly hot finish (14.5%)

From 750ml. Decanter 45 mins before serving. Big wine, dark red with a tinge of brown right the way through. On the nose, not typical barbaresco but plenty of leather, cassis and truffle notes. Very powerful on the palate, perhaps overpowering, still with leather organic taste but some of the fruit still there. I'm not sure this will refine further with age. The 14.5% alcohol makes it a little hot too.

(Old note) Lush, open, perfumed nose with spices, cherries, sandalwood and coconut. Paradoxally sublime and nuanced. Delicate, still tannic but harmonius palate. Very oaky but also delicate. Dark fruit, violets, cherries and mint. Modern expression of Barbaresco - but very well made. Tasted blind we guessed right on the origin but could not pinpoint producer. A very good expression of modern Barbaresco. The oakiness is integrated with bottle age. Can be cellared longer.

Wind Gap, Thackrey, La Spinetta, Altare, OV (Futo), Foley : Ruby in color, bright. The nose is complex with cherries, tar and a slight floral note. On the palate, this is in a nice place. The oak has integrated and this is layers of cherries and tar. Complex with good acidity. Went better with food. Long finish.

Sotheby's pre-auction tasting : anis, earth, some dried cherries: rim is almost brown. This is ready to go.

Drank at Palena in Washington DC. I think this wine is just now starting to come in to its drinking window. We decanted it and started drinking it about an hour later. Evocative smells and flavors of river stone, Italian prune plum, black licorice, some leather and tobacco even. Slate emerged later along with cranberry and black fruits. Still quite tight, I think this is a wine you could drink for years to come. If I had more, I would …

Not as big as I remember this wine to be. Way more balanced than I thought it would be.

The color on this wine is bizzare. Its almost a muddy dark rusty brown. Intense nose of old leather furniture, earth and a plethora of red fruit. Intense on the palate but lacking acidity. Not sure where this is going but its pretty good right now.

Dinner at Wild Orchid. Dark ruby to violet in color, this full bodied wine revealed cranberries, tobacco and wet moss along with some oak on a slightly closed nose. Rich and glyceral with a slightly roasted character, it still had good structure and appeared youthful for a '97. Dusty tannins on a long finish. 50+11+12.5+8+8 = 89.5+
