Very dark color, tending toward purple. The acidity has abated but there is still a nice sense of structure. Lush fruit -- not sweet but rich and very full-bodied. My wife loves this. Our experience is that patience is definitely rewarded with these wines.

Deep garnet that extends to the rim, showing the first hints of development. An expressive bouquet rich in steeped Morello cherries and plum conserve, prune, blackberry compote, and fig, with swirls of melted dark chocolate (50–60% cocoa). Below are wild herbs and spicy oak that neatly fold into the fruit, lending a dusting of vanilla and cinnamon. Flavours of plum sauce, black olive tapenade, and potting soil unfold across the mid-palate, giving it a savoury overlay beneath the gloss of …

Time has done good to this bottle. Everything seems to be coming together. The plushness of the fruit went quite well with Indian food.

delightful medium bodied Italian red. Probably has more years on it than cellar tracker's algorithm states.

Deep purple-black at the core, fading to red at the rim. A vivid nose of black cherry, boysenberry and blackcurrant is elaborated by minerals, cherry pips and dark chocolate all with a gentle dusting of spice. Remarkably pure, with no overt oak influence, the wine opens with a soft, fleshy entry that gives way to a vibrant core of acidity and firm yet fruit-coated tannins. There is a lovely fullness and confident gait, with layers of black raspberry, dark cherry …

Intense Cherry, oak, smoke and earthy (more like sandy) note. That nose has layers in it, so felt like each note comes at goes sequentially, in a good way. Nice acidity with mid-tannin, and so fruity at the same time. Good with pizza and pasta.

This is rocking right now -- nicely acidic to start, then sweeter with air. More complexity of flavor emerges too with air -- leather and cherry and something herbal. This is distinctly a modern style, but excellent as such, and pretty amazing for the price.

Ev kött korkad. Ovanligt kraftig för druvtypen. Dricker nästa inom ett år.

The 2015s seem a little tired already, but this is perfect for current drinking, smooth and rich and showing no signs of age. It's very glossy for a barbera, relatively low in acidity.

Vinum Piedmont tasting : Dark purple hue, good typicity for Barbera but was priced more than the Valmaggiore which didn’t make sense to me. Spice, purple fruit, plummy and more than a hint of alcohol on the finish.

God syre, fin frukt og behagelige tanniner. Oppleves som balansert. Hadde til andefilet, noe som var en perfekt balanse.

Aroma of leather and complex spices. Juicy and fresh taste of concentrated, dark red berries, mature tannins with a good length.

Dark and opaque. Fantastic nose - licorice, chocolate, rich red fruits with a bit of earthiness. Great acid and a long finish. Definitely a cut above your average Barbera.

Aroma of ripe, fresh, red berries with a hint of spice and wood. Taste is of rounded berry flavours with surprisingly stingy tannins for a barbera. Temperature is essential. Even if you store at 12-14 degrees, let it warm a bit.

If you are expecting this to be a typical high-acid, low tannin barbera, you will be as surprised as I was. This is a glossy, full-bodied, easy drinking wine, with relatively low acidity and a fair degree of richness. The 2015 version is starting to seem a little over the hill, so I would recommend drinking this within the next two years.

Medium most everything, but the whole of it is more than that. Just a pleasure to eat something drinking this. Sandrone is a very good producer, his Dolcetto is a steal. My second drinking was more of a 90.

Revisiting this Barberba for the third time. Every time I drink one of Sandrone’s wines, I fall in love. From the cork, again, you can smell the cocoa and white chocolate flavours you’ll get in the wine. On the nose, cherry, leather, oak, blackberry, plum, and a roasted scent, between smoke, coffee beans and tobacco. Smooth vanilla, truffle, licorice and toast on the palate, with cheese and pepper down the hatch! Fantastic as always, smooth tannins and very well balanced.

Mørkere bær i utgangen. Helt til slutt tobakk, jord og ørevoks. Grei lengde. God ganske rustikk barbera.

Sandrone with Luciano and Barbara Sandrone (Zoom!) : Wow, acid smash! I guess that's the 2014 vintage showing. Dark in colour, shiny and attractive. 10% new French oak adds some creaminess - rhubarb and custard on the nose. Really fresh and toothsome - clean without being sterile. Raspberry and aromatic green foliage. Barbara Sandrone thinks Barbera suits sunny, summery weather (it's nice drunk cool) and is worth ageing up to 15 years thanks to its healthy acidity.

dark leathery aroma with hints of cherries, focused acid, linear, a perfect food wine, matching well with sausage lasagna and BBQ ribs, carries bold flavors of plum, blackberry, cherry and stony earth, the acid really controls everything and lifts this brooding Barbera brilliantly

very dark wine berries and a touch of funk on the nose in the mouth juicy and big fruit with oodles of berries. DC pointed out that it lacks the acidity he'd expect in a barbera. Fine enough but bang for buck I found it considerably less interesting than Sandrone's '14 Valmaggiore (Nebbiolo) from Roero

Excellent Barbera d'Alba for the price. Bought at my local grocery store for $25. Decanted for one hour. Soft tanins and very drinkable so early in its drinking window. Would buy again.

Luciano Sandrone Visit (Barolo, Italy) : Barrel sample to be bottled around Christmas; deep maroon color with bright reddish violet rim, good extraction; bright, floral, plum, still very new, fresh nose; silky tannin but better than average depth, fresh acid, strong sour plum; good.
