Again, an exceptional wine from this estate. A concentrated, powerful white burgundy, the 2023 has a limpid light straw color and offers exuberant aromas of golden cape gooseberry, pink grapefruit, beeswax and just the barest hint of musk. Saturated and rich on the palate punctuated by a touch of toasted hazelnuts and vanilla, moderate acidity and a distinctive silky texture that lingers for minutes. Great pairing with a Nantucket Bay Scallops dish with Bouillabaisse Consomme. Wine is starting to show some age, but the freshness and salinity of the dish gave it some vibrancy. Nice toffee and honey notes in the wine, along with some minerality. Not much remnant fruit.

From a bottle purchased a few years after release, I chose this bottle because the color was just a bit deeper than others of the same vintage. My view is, if you look carefully at comparable bottles, you can detect premox in wines that are 10+ years old. In the glass this wine had a bright deep yellow/gold center with clear rims. Really drinking nicely, no hints of oxidation at all. Had a creamy yet citrus flavor. Really blossomed after about 30 minutes of air. Delicious.

This particular bottle was in good nick and a better wine than the 98 we had a few days ago. It had some mushroom/truffle development with ripe orchard fruit aromas and flavours. It had good depth in the mouth with flavours that are lightly honeyed and a fresh finish cut with citrus fruit acidity.

The beginning of the holiday season and time to crack another 1996 white Burg to check for premature oxidation. I chose the Truffiere to serve with a truffle centric dinner with friends at home.
