The most classic 'chenin' bottle of bernaudeau I've had. This has that richness and lanolin note that I usually don't get from bernaudeau but do get from more classic producers. The complexity is extremely high, but for me this is missing just a tiny bit of acidity to balance that richness out. Still quite good, and improves with air.

Color is medium golden. On the nose: Tropical fruit/pineapple, honey, paraffin, apple and some reductive notes like struck match. On the palate: Apple, orange, pineapple, honey, spice notes/cinnamon and some glycerin. This is sensational. Really good acidity. Shows how good Chenin Blanc can be.

This was even better than the last bottle! Beautiful nose with high precision, notes of lemon, citrus, and green apples. Lots of minerals on the palate with great acidity, linear mouthfeel and more citrus notes. Long finish. Amazing wine! This opened up really well over a few hours and showed more and more depth as time went on.

Gave this a short decant but did not have much reduction at first. The nose had much spruce, really reminded me of a Savoie wine. The mouth was powerful, with lots of apples, great length. Excellent wine. Vinified as Vin de France and in its own league.

Very bright nose with notes of citrus, lemon, green apple, minerals, and a hint of white pepper. High acidity on the palate with lots of citrus fruit, lemon, lime, and crushed rocks. Nice and long finish. Really good wine, although I didn't enjoy this bottle quite as much as the previous one. This felt quite a bit brighter and more lifted, but didn't have the texture and richness. From this sample, the wine is still super young and has years/decades …

IPNC 2024; 7/25/2024-7/28/2024 (Willamette Valley) : Glass at Antica Terra. Mandarin oranges, black lime, spicy applesauce. Reminded me of a Pu-erh tea I had once that had been aged in dried tangerine. Not a quaffable wine, for me this gets all its points for complexity.

Nose of herbs, earth and apple. Palate of crisp sour apple; clean and long. Excellent

Nose of bruised peach, apple and bitter herbs. The palate enters full and yellow, moves toward ripe orchard fruits mid palate and ends with a weighty yet lifted and textured finish. Super!

My favorite bottle and vintage by Bernaudeau. Immediately jumped at this generous contribution. Super persistent, energetic, impeccable balance, and so ridiculously good. Some of the best white wine you can get. Can hold its own against any great French producer.

Color has some gold to it, but with air it seemed to become lighter and the wine is very youthful and fresh. Lemon and mineral notes, with some underlying salinity too. There is some richness here that is perfectly balanced by the acidity. Excellent.

This was much more subtle on the nose compared to the 2018 Leroy Montbenault but also showed a bit more breadth. Pretty nose with lemon and slightly riper fruit (peach) that shows some weight without being heavy. Nice acidity on the palate with flavors of lemon, orange, and minerals. The flavors are round and very well balanced. Nothing sticks out, but also nothing really jumps at you. Nice and long finish. Fantastic wine, maybe just a small step behind the …

Rich and wildly exuberant nose, we keep coming back to it: sometimes floral, sometimes on tropical fruits, sometimes again on sweet almonds. The mouth is of the same caliber, namely a beautiful acidity (which moreover dominated at the opening, but 4 hours of aeration allowed the elements to fall perfectly into place) which launches the wine endowed with a juice which possesses fat. Everything comes together perfectly, this bottle seems to be perfectly mature: jasmine, tropical fruits, iodine, nuts... It's …

French theme dinner at Highland. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, gold colour. egs. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of rich golden fruits, ripe peaches, stony minerality. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acdity, medium alcohol (13.5%), full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of rich golden peaches, citrus lemon orange, stony minerality, wooly lanolin with more air. Long finish with a sense of thin waxiness. Very good quality. Lovely purity cut in …

Lovely, rich nose of red apples, citrus, honey, and a bit of popcorn. Complex palate with lemon notes, orange, minerals, hay, a bit more honey and lots of intensity yet great balance. Very long finish. Simply outstanding wine that will likely be even better in another 5-10 years. Wow!

Hanuman Cherry Pops : Seriously, the 2018 is a complete slayer. This wine amazes me every single time and last night was no different. Tons of energy, beautiful structure, bright acid, and Coche-like on the palate (think Enseigneres). Wow.

Lovely nose with notes of apples, orchard fruit, and citrus. Very nuanced and showing more and more depth and fruit flavors with air. Great acidity with lemon, crushed rocks, chalky notes, and grapefruit on the palate. Very complex and long on the finish. Excellent wine that probably needs at least 5 years to show all it has. 95+

Started quite finely, very pure acid profile. Linear, but with extended air, richer, rounder, bust still that lovely pure mineral spine, despite the richness. Still tight, recorded the next day, a hint of toffee apple but still crisp and savoury.

A private lunch (Restaurant Europizza, Amsterdam, NL) : A mythical 0.7 ha parcel in the lieu-dit Les Nourcerons. Made from Chenin Blanc planted in 1910, whole bunch fermentation, spontaneous fermentation and ageing on the fine lees for one year in used barrique, bottled unfined and unfiltered, low sulphur . Gently sweet apple and citrus fruit in counterpoint with marvellously deep and spicy minerality, Riesling-like elegance and floral lift, hints of stone fruit and flower honey, soft but fresh, effortlessly flowing, …

Orchard fruit, ripe pear, minerals, and deep on the nose. It felt less tropical than the 2018 Ongles from a few weeks ago and very well balanced despite the obvious vintage influence. Good acidity with more minerals, apples, and peach on the palate. Lovely and long finish. Very promising wine, that will definitely benefit from a few years in the cellar. It was even better on day two. 95+

Been waiting forever to drink this with Wilson and Co. Finally! Notes resemble prior impressions. That honeyed note is just so damn good. So much structure and layers of goodness here. This Chenin triumphed over everything else served that night, IMO.

The nose on this is fantastic. Tropical, rich, and like Sauternes in many ways! The palate is bright, energetic, and mouth coating. Lots of white stone fruit and honey. Super persistent, as noted in a prior note, with the finish clocking in at over half a minute. Damn. This is delicious.

Wow. Initially it's a strong dose of stone fruit, especially peach pit. Palate is dense/slightly waxy, but palate is not heavy. It's lively, it's juicy acidity, and it's balanced. With air, the wine picks up a honey note. Just complexity all day, that I have to drop off from conversation to just sit and think a bit about the wine. Loved it.

Easily the best Chenin I’ve had. Rich, dense, persistent, and kept improving with air (even taking on some honey notes after a few hours). This can hold its own against wines that are way higher on the price scale. Just bought a bunch more.

PNP into 薄はり葡萄酒器 (“Flower” day): Medium golden to the eyes. Fresh herbs, white spices. Pine nut notes that sets this apart. Ripe citrus fruits like grapefruits and some orchard fruits like golden apples here but a lot more finely interpreted here compared to most Chenins out there. Some reduction like egg whites notes that blew off quickly in glass. Penetrating yet highly elegant and pure notes here. Waves of minerality on palate with very high acidity to match on palate, …

Wow - this Chenin Blanc was stunning. Nose was so expressive with tangerines, almonds, jasmine tea. Palate kind of reached for tropical fruits but were more white in flavor than yellow. Acidity, minerals, fairly concentrated and long finish. Excellent.
