Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: 4 Guys and lots of interesting wine (@home) : Glass: Zalto Universal Tasted fully blind. Clear, deep golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, fully developed nose with lots of ripe, exotic fruit and cotton candy. Sweet, 8% abv, medium+ acidity. Declassified Auslese. Creamy, juicy, dense and deep. Lots of ripe fruit, cotton candy and a nice mineral core. Medium+ fruity finish. Potential for further ageing, but I doubt it will improve. 91

Method: pop and pour; white wine glass; fridge temp Look: light+ gold with yellow and green tint Nose: honey, apricot, fresh ginger, salt, mineral Palate: light honey, apricot, lime, mineral; medium+ finish salt, ginger, lime; medium sweetness; medium body; high- acidity Overall thoughts: Very expressive nose. Palate is nice mix of ripe fruit, spice and mineral. Great tension between the sweetness and pretty electric acidity. I feel like it's just nicely integrated but still primary. Prior bottle was nearly 15 months ago and my notes were again consistent. White and yellow peach, white and yellow pineapple, distinct mango as well as acidity/citrus notes on the very aromatic nose. Medium, bodied with the same notes of white apple and white peach upfront as my prior bottle showed. The upfront fruit alternates between round openness and driving intensity. White and yellow peach through the middle as well as white pineapple, passion fruit and a mix of other, …

Prior bottle was a bit over 13 months ago and my notes were virtually identical. White peach and white pineapple along with mango and plenty of citrus/acidity on the nose. Medium bodied with white apple and peach upfront, moving to more intense peach, pineapple and passion fruit through the middle. The acidity and citrus notes on the backside are still intense and vibrant, a real positive. This contrast keeps the fruit feeling fresh, well-defined and balanced. I will probably open …

90-92? Punkte. Die letzten Jahre in meinem Klimakühlschrank in D. aufbewahrt. Vor circa 10 Jahren gekauft. Jugendlich in Farbe und Geschmack. Sehr feine Spätlese mit 7,5% Alkohol. Dezente, feinhefige Noten. Hier läuft alles über Feinheit, Eleganz und Schwerelosigkeit. Reintönig. Dennoch Substanz und Konzentration und deutliche Süße. Auch nach einer Woche im Kühlschrank praktisch unverändert. Top Wein. Bis circa 2030+ wunderbar zu genießen.

White and yellow peach, white pineapple and lots of acidity notes on the nose. Close to medium bodied (7.5% ABV) with white peach upfront, moving quickly to yellow peach and white/yellow pineapple through the middle. As it warms, other tropical notes show through including mango and passion fruit. Tart citrus and very good acidity on the backside provide contrast. Some richness and borderline sweetness towards the back of the mid-body but then the acidity jumps in and balances neatly. This …

Prior bottle was almost a year ago and this wine remains in a great spot. White peach, white pineapple and mango notes on the nose along with lots of minerals and acidity. Medium bodied with white apple and peach upfront, but really gets going through the middle with intense peach, pineapple and passion fruit along with many other nuances still concealed behind the outstanding acidity. The acidity remains completely electric and when combined with the citrus and other tart, backside …

Christmas Day 2020 (My place, Kent Street) : Served with nectarines wrapped in proscuitto di parma or jamon iberica. From Coravin. this was the most muted of the wines for this bracket...quite mineral with a slight herbaceous note accompanying green apple, similar flavours on the palat. It was also the most out of balance; not massively so but the other wines were very 'complete'. I found the acid and sugar not very integrated. Probably the worst food match as well. …

Fumey matchstick on the nose that dissipates after an hour. Wonderfully light-textured and graceful, with ripe pear, apricot and tangerine fruits all vying for attention. Lots of minerals, a whiff of petrol, and a bit of reduction present in the mouth as well. Seems on the drier end of spätlese, but it could be just that the balance is so finely tuned that the sweetness falls to the background. While quite delicious now, it needs some time sideways - likely …

From Coravin. Initially a little kerosene, again a little herbaceous note over muted apple and lemon fruit, slight white pepper, generally more mineral than the 2007 for me on the nose. Off dry but the acid is more lemon than apple for me here. there is also a little soft textured burr to the mid palate. Quite simple but travels long. Okay.

Nice classic wet stone, petrol, and lime aromas and flavors, with somewhat understated fruit - a mix of golden apple and tropical and stone fruits - and a nice dose of cumin-like spice (evocative of falafel). Acid-driven, but with enough fairly moderate sweetness for good balance. Stony finish. Plenty of typicity and character, with a sense of precision and focus, and just plain tasty.

My eighth bottle of this over two years. Some variation but all within 84-92 points. This bottle is one of my favorites. Beautiful flower and lemony nose some slightly reductive and smoky complexity and a hint of petrol as well. Still a hint of fermentation funk!(?) Ripe palate which still feels a little bit too sweet. Out of practical necessity- wines popped and poured and visited over a 2 hour period. light yellow color, pure peach on the nose, white stones, on the palate a superb impact, tight- yet far more giving tonight that the von Schubert or Schaefer Spatlesen, white cherries in addition to a good breadth of citrus notes, excellent length, edgy and wild with time, one of the most forward wines of the night but …

Still an infant this Spätlese has so much potential. A lot of fruit (peach, some quince) and minerality on the bouquet are counterbalanced by an enormous amount of nicely balanced acidity. This wine will need quite some time and than merit an even higher score.

A Rieslingfeier of our Own; 2/13/2017-2/18/2017 (Traben-Trarbach, Germany) : Very elegant and floral, and a definite step up in sweetness from the Kabinett. Of the three Spätlesen tasted, this was probably the most approachable and open. Despite the full-bodied sweet fruit, this retains a firm acidic core.

Excess : Electric. This is just flat out amazing with an array of ripe peach, tangerine, and mandarin orange fruit at its core, augmented by bright florality and an intense, vivid expression of slate and stone beneath. The acidity here is absolutely insane though but never overwhelming or sharp, and keeps it unbelievably light and vibrant while giving it an incredible sense of freshness. This is a wow wine, and I'm glad I have more.

Nice attack of green and red apple and some tropical notes. The palate has both luscious ripe sweetness and tangy green-apple acidity, but he two fight rather than complement each other (like two heavy weights on a barbell, per one taster - balanced in theory but not in harmony). Finish of green apple, lime pith, pineapple sweetness, and good cut. Not great.

This really hit a spot tonight! Winner on all accounts - nose, palate and finish. A really wonderful and complex nose. No reductive notes or anything unpleasant at all. Just pure, delicate pleasure. We drank this after an excellent Rheingau which was both more intensive and concentrated, and sweeter. So this might have blurred our palates but anyway here comes the experience.
