Craigs Group - Rhone (but our table was all CDP) (Meritage - Medoc Room) : Quite solid. This sparkler has a profile that strongly resembles Champagne. The give-away is the almost sweet robust fruit that you rarely if ever find in the Champagne region. Really great qualitatively.

Big Group: Rhones (Meritage, St. Paul) : Light-medium gold color. Small pour. This has taken a nice step forward. Rich, red apple, hazelnut, marzipan, ripe and full. 91+ to 92pts.

Red apple skin, pear and brioche. Fruit character is fresh. Nice and dry on the finish. Tastes new world, but is good; However, I prefer Champagne NV at this price point though.

Beautiful sparkler than, in my opinion, punches way above its weight. Nice energy, with a great balance of brioche, fruit and acid that makes this delicious both on its own or with food. This was another great showing.

pale gold colour. complex and moderately expressive aromas and flavours of yellow, green and red apple, tart quince, fresh stonefruit, lemon pastry and orange zest lifted by gentle white floral accents on a base of chalky wet stones and almond paste. dry, with delicate mousse and a bright beam of acidity that sculpts the developing flavours as they weave across the palate in evolving combinations. it has superb balance, well-integrated autolytic character, good volume while being light of feel, complex …

deeply colored, very fine mousse. aromatically intense and layered... baked apples and spices, nutty (oak use), bready... underneath these full flavors are a streak of fennel and citrus, stone fruits, etc. on the palate high acids, broad midpalate, minimal phenolic bitternes, low alcohol. excellent sparkling wine... manages to be big round and broad without being clumsy.

After trying a lot of grower Champagne recently, I wanted to try a well made California sparkler. This is well done, but you can taste the riper fruit in this. On the palate, clear notes of pineapple and cantaloupe. Otherwise, good acidity and balance and the dosage is very well judged. This is well made, but I’d rather spend $60-65 on grower Champagne.

You sellin this for $46 BMo, I’m buying! Another fantastic bottle…little more Irish soda bread in this…salted caramels…crushed rocks…youthful stand attention tartness. Reminds me of the 2009 Cristal! Fantastic!

This is really in a delightful place right now. Magnum and open a day or so, as it warms there is plentiful autolytic character and white florals and ginger aromas. The palate offers grace and power at the same time with wonderful persistence. No rush here but don’t hesitate to open either!

A blockbuster wine and what a privilege to catch it at this point of its evolutionary journey. Stone fruit, preserved lemons, yellow apples, white flowers, brioche, and a trove of minerality rise from the glass. A touch of autolytic complexity too. Crisp and fresh, loaded with energy and structure, impeccable precision and delineation, and near perfect tension and focus. Fine bubbles ride atop a silky mousse, and a whiff of spicy ginger laces the long, flowing, and ridiculously tasty finish. …

A sparkler with flavors in the stone fruit end of the spectrum: yellow peach, apricot, pears (I know, not a stone fruit). There is some faint toastiness on the nose, though not a lot. It's a different story in the mouth though- quite dry, high acidity, with flavors that emphasize bread dough, yeastiness, toasted bread, as well as the yellow fruits on the nose. The mousse is nice and creamy. The finish is medium in length with a bit of …

Light-medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour out on the lake, tasted again a couple days later.. Red apple, marzipan, apricot, toasted hazelnut, ripe melon, and more subtle spices on the nose. The full bodied palate shows tart apple, apricot, yeast, baking spice, subtle cinnamon; dry stones, citrus and citrus zest on the back end. Good, but recent vintages have not really hit the mark for me. 90, maybe 91pts.

52% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir with 4.9% aged reserves from 2010,12,14, 8g/l dos...this wine is SO appealing! Starts with the wonderful vinous richness of fruit...baked apple, pear marmalade, apricot...tart and zippy with lemon and grapefruit squeeze...seems classic...BUT...what really makes this wine so special it the friggin unique complexities i'm getting...has an almond liqueur, roasted nuts, marzipan, clove spice thingy going on...really fascinating and engaging. Super soft and creamy mouth filling mousse of sweet brioche and smoked sea salt...everything in well …

Sweet mandarin orange, meyer lemon, Greek yogurt, parmesan rind, ripe peach, pear, dried apricot, toasted pecan, and well-toasted brioche. High acid, lively attack but not harsh in any way. Possibly partial or full MLF. Fine soft mousse. Medium+ gold color. A fantastic QPR, especially relative to Champagne (which I love). Picked riper. I had to dig past the 2017s to get the last 2015 in the back of the row. So, not sure if this wine has been patiently waiting …

This bottle of bubbles surprised me! It was fabulous! It had all the things your mama told you about good Champagne... Except it isn't from the supposed centre of the bubbles universe. It's from sunny CA, USA! 🤣 Like a finely baked brioche, with citrus accents and that cinnamon scent after just pulling Mama's apple pie from the oven, and the creamy viscosity of that dollop of pure vanilla ice cream melts away, as the bubbles/mousse burst on the tongue. …

Wow! Honestly had very low expectations, but this wine was still very much alive. Rigorous bubbles, decent acid. Not very oxidative at all, very lemon and lemon pith driven. Some yeast, brioche, pineapple poking through but couldn't really detect any real signs of age. I think this could last much longer. Not my personal favorite, but surely a very well-made bubbly.

2004 tête de cuvées blind (Chicago, IL) : Served double blind. A touch reductive on the nose here, and that flintiness had me going straight to Dom Perignon. Had good complexity and weight on the palate as well. Not showing much fruit; this is more of a structural wine. The acidity is fresh and bright here as well.

Never drank a bottle of champagne by myself before. Friday evening, in the backyard, Gin Blossoms playing, still kind of warm out. Full bodied and sticky and gritty, then hit with a bite of lemongrass and citrus. Just took a bite of mushy ripe cantaloupe and prosciutto with toast. Now pizza dough and lemon rind. Shit the wife has joined me, bottle gone. Experience 95 pts.

Another excellent sparkling wine, and one of the better ones from the USA. Another excellent value from Roederer Estates! The wine is crisp and lively with excellent bubbles. On the nose, I get fresh baked bread, vanilla, toasty oak and a hint of apple blossoms. On the palate, a combination of yeast, peaches and cream, some creamy pear, and some nectarine, followed by buttered toast and a hint of butterscotch. An excellent example of a USA Sparkling wine, which I …

This really does hold its own with its more famous French cousins. Has a perfect amount of toasty/yeasty flavors now with age to balance the still vibrant fruit. Top notch effort here. By far the best CA sparkler I have ever had. Will gladly be dropping $40 on the latest vintage and putting it away for a few years.

Nose gives off fresh apple and almond notes; palate shows mostly ripe red apple and brioche; not hugely complex but quite delicious. Perfectly judged dosage, never became heavy or tiring after a few glasses. A bit less acidity than the NV Brut and perhaps a bit more elegant, though I had trouble picking out more flavors. Trying the NV again in two days to see if this is worth twice the price.
