I didn't take notes, but this was tasty, fairly refined, and a good match for steak tacos.

Quick decant. Brambly black raspberry nose with notes of wild blueberry and lavender. Dusty blackberry palate with juniper, tarragon, fresh oregano and a touch of white pepper and other wild herbs dancing around. Layers of rustic tannins and a jolt of acidity lead the finish to tea leaves, dried basil, boysenberry, more juniper, and an expressive oak and whole cluster note. Bold and savory with enough fruit and acidity to balance it all out. Outstanding.

Took a full day to open but it was excellent after it did! Agree with David/RieslingFan!

Such a beautiful bottle of wine. There’s all the savory depth of the Evangelho Vineyard, and an effortless grace to the overall presentation. It’s not a delicate wine, but strongly built and perfectly proportioned and attired.

Very solid if young. Very expressive nose of dark berries and spice notes. Continued to get better after several hours air. Intense spicy and acidic palate, fine tannins. Persistent intense finish adding a chalky quality.

Quick decant. Quite a complex nose, with dark fruit, smoked meats, black fig, dusty earth, and India ink. More smoked meat on the palate with crunchy blue fruits, black tea, acidity, minerals, and Prosciutto. Smooth tannins on the finish with blueberry, bresola, and touch of salt water an old oak. Wow - what a wine!

Lots of stewed fruit, low-to-moderate acidity. Tasted over several hours of decanting. Underwhelming, overall.

Tasted over two evenings, this is the essence of Evangelho, reduced to a concentrate. Every element of the wine is more intense, from the inherently sappy fruit, to the bracing finishing acidity. That concentration makes itself even more evident on the finish, which carries on like David Crosby in his prime, pouring out his heart on Almost Cut My Hair. The sweetness and bitterness blend into harmony, and after a deafening crescendo a gentle descent into silence that echoes like …

Via Bedrock: “From the small, westerly-sloping core block at Evangelho Vineyard, this wine is our third from Frank Evangelho’s favorite block on the ranch. A Mataro/Mourvedre dominant field-blend that also features Zinfandel, Carignan and a trace of Palomino, this block produces a wine we consider the concentrated essence of Evangelho and Contra Costa. Fermented with 20% whole-cluster to amplify spice and perfume, the wine is aged in neutral larger format barrels. Dense but spry, this wine marries the terrestrial, forest …
