Poured and let sit 1/2 hour in glass: Darkish fruit on entry, some spice, but not much of anything mid and finish. Over the next 3/4 hr, fruit still there and some tannins emerge, but relatively soft. Wine itself is soft; needs a bit of acidity. The label says cabernet, but no real cab taste/flavor; but probably closer to cab than pinot or zin by process of elimination. Drinkable, but not much more.

Delicious fruit-forward tannin bomb that can easily go another few years... if I had more.

Dark fruit on the palate with notes of blackberry and spice, nice finish, well rounded tannins. Very good for this price point.

Deep ruby Nose: Soft cherry, spice, and candy shop notes. Blackberry coulis leads off, immediately framed by cocoa nib and an energetic baking spice note. The fruit pushes through the curtain of spice, turning to macerated black cherry and melted red licorice ahead of a lingering spicy finish. Drink now. 87.

Decanted for 4 hours. Dark purple in color. Nose powered by oak, perfume, sweet cherry. Flavor is rich and chocolatey. Lots of cocoa. Tannin backdrop. Finishes with a cinnamon red hot spice. Delicious!

I finally decided to drink this bottle of a vintage dating back to my college days. It represented the last of a case which I purchased through Wine of the Month Club and had been on my "wine shelf" for nearly 20 years. It was a good decision. This 1983 cabernet was much more in the style of the Bordeaux, the opposite of a fruit bomb. Deep purple. Full bodied. Unfiltered. Rustic. Earthy. Lots of tannin on opening. Flavors of …

Decent fruit - I would have liked to have seen more integrated oak, however.

This is another wine that I love to buy every year. It never disappoints. This has all the fruit i love in a cab including cassis, black cherrry, and a touch blueberry. But it also has wonderful cedar, leather and tobacco notes. The only distraction was the slightly sour cherry note on the finish. If it wasn't for that, this would be "outstanding". It's still a very solid effort, and I'll definitely buy more of this vintage and continue to …

Gorgeous nose of currants (red and black) and pomegranates, carrying through into the rich, intense flavor profile, with tons of vanilla, some spice, and red licorice notes; lovely tannins and a nice finish. Went really well with spicy Christmas ham, sweet potatoes, and scalloped potatoes with cheese, and was mightily enjoyed by all.

Very nice nose of currants and blackberries. A very well made and enjoyable wine. I didn't think the alcohol was that noticeable at all. Very nice dark fruits throughout, with a sightly short finish and a little too simplistic to earn a higher rating. A very nice QPR, especially for a cabernet.

The nose is pure cassis. Smooth and silky in the mouth with black currant and more cassis. The finish starts with alcohol, then adds black currant and a little oak. This is a very solid wine, except for the alcoholic jolt on the finish. A little out of balance at this point. Not sure whether this wine has the tannic structure to go for more than a few years. Rated very well even with the obvious flaw. It is very …

Old World Vs. New World (Farpointe Cellar) : The nose had black currant, cherry, chocolate, spice, and vanilla. The palate was soft, rich, and juicy, and had black currant, spice, chocolate, and a nice clove finish.

I don't understand why this wine was not rated higher. An excellent wine for the price. Blackberry, currant on the nose, LOTS of fruit all the time. Plum and tobacco on the finish. The only disappointmet was the finish is not very long. All in all though an outstanding value for the dollar.
