Cadence, Bel Canto, Red Mountain

Wow, was this bottle singing. Cork required a Durand to remove as it disintegrated. To my surprise, the wine was lovely, lots of tertiary notes of mushroom and forest floor to accompany the earthy Cab Franc (which dominated this bottle). Just beautiful.

Bought upon release and properly cellared since. Base neck fill. Cork in great shape. Popped and poured and drank over 3 hours. While still enjoyable this was probably better 5 years ago. If I had and more, I would do minimal to no decanting and drink now over the next 1-2 years. Enjoyable but not great.

good to very good cherry seems to start and then fade with hint of camphor and oak lingering drinks fine now and could still age

Decanted for an hour before tasting. I am well aware that, in general, Cadnece wines benefit from aging, but this might be better with even a few more years in bottle than the 13 years it already has behind it. Peppery ted fruit and florals were delicious and complex. Drink now with a decant or keep aging for another 2-5. Excellent.

An off vintage vs. other Bel Cantos. PNP as 2nd wine in dinner party. Hints of mountain fruit (as noted 3 years ago in tasting note below) yet then there was nothing. Hoped for more during the hours after and on day 2 and day 3. Still just "some kind of wine".

LA rookies reunited : decanted. dark ruby color. Nose vanilla, dark fruited with some cinnamon. Palate dark fruited, tannic; despite the decanting for several hours, still seems monolithic. Unsure about the potential for this one. 87 pts

2004 vintage

Corked popped out for 3 hrs before serving. Still in the zone, this 04 blend of cab franc / merlot is in a great window of prime time drinking. Spice / florals / and chocolate compete on the nose, very savory and rich. The palate is well integrated, moving beyond individual components leaning instead toward a layered and complete wine as a whole. Pretty light on its feet actually with good grip still on the finish. Lovley wine.

After a necessary three hour decant, this wine does open up with dark mountain fruit, but not overly expressive or bright. Active tannins even after three hours suggest this wine has more time and will get better over the next few years. Medium weight and solid but not spectacular.

Inviting nose of ripe black fruits & cherry liquor accented by subtle herbal and spice notes echos on the rich mid palate ending in a medium finish. Has held up well enough but me thinks I'd have enjoyed it more 2-3 years ago.

This is a well made wine in terms of structure but I think it lacks that certain something which makes wine desirable. I sipped on it over the course of four hours having food with it between hours two and three. It never impressed. Almost sweet in a way. Alcohol was mild. Maybe it's just not my style.

WIML91 Tasted non blind. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of smoke, black berries, black cherries and plums. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink with some air time.

More "right bank" blends like this would be welcome. Nose is a bit shut down, but the wine emerges subtly & beautifully on the palate w/ red & blue fruit. Very soft mouthfeel w/ characteristic silky CF tannins. Not quite ready to drink, but as with all Cadence wines will blossom beautifully.

Opened and decanted 2+ hours ahead of Memorial Day dinner of seared Wagyu NY Strips, pan-fried crab cakes, and mixed salads. Deep, cloudy crimson color. The bright, Burgundian nose brings a potent mixture of cherries, raspberries, strawberries, menthol, mint, eucalyptus, herbs, spices, roses, violets, funk, and hints of old leather. The full-bodied palate is still a little hard, bringing more ripe cherries, candied raspberries, rhubarb, blackberries, and baked apple pie, which leads into an outstanding 45-60-second finish of creamy strawberry …

Decanted 2 hrs. This was my third and final bottle of a three pack, and confirms without a doubt, that Cadence wines need at least 5 years of sideways time to really shine. Clearly this wine is in a Prime Time drinking window, fantastic multifaceted nose of roses and violets, Indian spices and chocolate. My last TN from two years ago noted a stalky taste on the palate, probably (from the cab franc) – this bottle was all dark plums …

Decanted for 1.5 hours. Nose of perfume, baking spice, and alcohol. Ripe red fruits, baking spice, vanilla on the palate. Good tannins and moderately complex.

poised red fruit to start, the tannin is lively, and then the midpalate ends with a Super Tart snap. The finish is very long, with greenery and berry skins that essentially never disappear. The cab franc is singing here, allowing a glimpse of red fruit on occasion, but making its mark with a smack of underbrush. I like. But I suspect it would not be 'fruity' enough for palates accustomed to sweeter, more oak-laden reds.

I thought the creamy mouthfeel was the highlight of this tonight. The spicy mid palate and fine grained tannin finish with sour blackberry juice anda touch of graphite. I find this complex and tasty, best drunk at cooler temps to appreciate its nuances. Much more poise than the average WA wine, at least to my palate.

Pretty dang close to full maturity, perhaps a year or two at most, but it’s right there. Others commented on a little heat on the nose which I couldn’t detect (lucky me), but there was plenty of cinnamon and rose petal to go around, shades of tobacco and chocolate. High percentage of cab franc (50% cf – 40% merlot – 10% pv), and it shows as the palate delivers a green, almost stalky edge to the spicy and somewhat bitter …

My notes were very similar to previous bottle... maybe not quite as "intense" or "complex" yet the wine shows itself as very cab franc (not easy to do in the new world) and is very well made. It is drinking well and I think the adventuresome can hold onto this for another year or two.

Blind California Cult Cabernet Tasting (Mill Creek, WA) : The nose initially had a multi-vitamin like aroma that quickly blew off. This wine didn't get the benefit of a decant period like most or all of the other wines in the flight. This was the only wine in the flight that had a significant amount of Cab Franc. I think it was like 50% Cab Franc? The palate had nice chocolate and cherry flavors. Very nice wine.

Delicious Washington Fruit! Enjoyed with Grilled Chicken and Spinach/Feta Pie. Lots of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot floral notes on the nose. The attack is all Cab Franc Red berry goodness, with only hints of vanilla oak. The clarity of the fruit in this bottle is just amazing. Medium body, and finish is fading.

Good cab franc dominant Walla Walla right bank Bordeaux blend. Drank next to an 04 Spring Valley Uriah ( merlot dominant); both wines were very complimentary to each other.

Very impressive and approachable young!!!But I must wait on the next bottle. Very fragrant, with this Petit Verdot and Cab Franc heavy blend. The Merlot gave solid structure, and paired so well with the Spinach and Fetta pie. This bottle sings in a way few have. Bravo for Wash state. This was a welcome surprise. Near Opaque dark deep red. Currant, rhubarb, and cherry, with lusty hints after of cream and blueberries. Just wonderfull!

Very nice. Decanted for 30 minutes and then enjoyed over the next 2 hours. The wine evolved throughout the night with the last glass being the best. Silky tannins in the mouth. Lots of berry, root beer and vanilla. Outstanding. Will be very enjoyable to see how this develops with additional time.

A tinge on the alcoholic side in its youth. Just brilliant in all other aspects though. Well worth the coin, and will pair with a variety of dishes, i.e. two people having a few different things, just don't go hot and spicy. Decant, decant, decant, wish I decanted more, didn't have the opportunity as I brought this out for dinner. Would buy again.
