We were a bit worried we had waited too long, and then when the cork broke, we thought, well, definitely too old. However, we eventually triple decanted the wine and managed to filter out a majority of other sediment and cork bits. Brownish red, pronounced pruniness initially, plenty of dried dark fruit, yet after multiple decants, the wine had much more lift and vivacity than we had hoped. Still a tad of sweet fruit remaining , and savory notes added …

My first 5 Stelle. I have had the regular Negri Sfursat back through the 1969 and ,amy vintages since which indicates I like this wine. This was a conspicuous step to a higher level of deeper fruit suggesting riper fruit. Recioto nebbiolo is related but very different from Amarone. Went wonderfully with roasted vegetable pizza. As almost always with Italian wines, this is food wine not a wine of contemplation. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking to explore the …

Keller Ingo. Advanced maturation, with mature cherries, leather, prunes, tobacco, chocolate, spicebread. Mouthfilling and sensual, driven by balsamico umami and super-ripe fruit. Delicious as always. Drink now and over the next 2 years.

Concentrated and elegant. Cedar, tobacco, chocolate, truffle, cinnamon, sweet spices and, earthy tones in the (long) finish. Not their best year, but still a treat.

All for weirdness (Surprise! for anyone who's subjected themselves to one of my notes), but I'm with the scolds on this oak and rhubarb laboratory emulsion. Slightly more refined on night 5, but by no means worthy of its name, I could side eye this again once @2/3 the $50 I paid, because Science, but I would hope the sort of store that carries this would have more than enough other distractions to waylay me

Always a treat, although a bit less expressive than the last bottle - possibly due to pairing with pasta instead of meat. Ripe cherries, leather, tobacco, chocolate, spicebread, with a phenolic ending.

Intoxicating perfume, notes of redolent red berries, hint of coffee, dark chocolate, and sandalwood. Balanced, savory, cloves on the mid palate. Delicious.

Another hedonist moment around this wonderful wine from Valtellina. Perfect maturity. Exotic, elegant nose, mature cherry, fine leather and butterscotch. Medium to full bodied, with a complex palate, combining elegant tobacco, leather, chocolate, nuts and spice bread with subtle phenolic notes, ink and licorice and abundant umami. A treat.

Dried red fruit, cranberry, cherry with pronounced earthy flavours such as old leather and dried leaves. Lingering tannins with a long balsamic aftertaste. Well balanced and well alive. No sign of declining. Very enjoyable

My last btl was almost a decade ago. This has lost some weight but taken on character. Still large and powerful (16% EtOH OMG!) but nuanced with notes of tobacco, dried flowers, black cherry, and some figgy PX notes. While it is showing some age, this easily has another 20 years in the tank. This remains very serious juice, screams of character, and is super fun to drink. Having said that, I am not sure I will go in for …

This special cuvée from the tiny Italian region of Valtellina never disappoints. Now at perfect maturity. Exotic, elegant nose, built on mature cherry notes, fine leather and butterscotch. Medium to full bodied, with a complex palate, combining elegant tobacco, leather, chocolate, nuts and spicebread with subtle phenolic notes, ink and licorice and abundant umami.

No exception to the many good experiences in the past, this Cinquestelle boasts depth, elegance and charme. Medium to full bodied, with lots of sweetness, cedar, tobacco, chocolate, truffle, cinnamon, with a long, rewarding finish. Yet not reaching the glory of the 1996, my personal benchmark.

Short note. In a very good place. Nose with herbs, licorice, leather, tobacco and ripe dark cherry fruit. Palate is mature, sweet ripe cherries, licorice, leather and a fine acidity for a nice finish. Perhaps a bit more alcohol is showing than in previous bottles, with the fruit falling off, still within boundaries and a good companion to the Porchetta I had for dinner tonight. Best vintage I have had of this wine, final bottle from my cellar.

Exotic nose, built on mature cherry notes, fine leather and butterscotch. Best Cinque Stelle since my favourite 1996. Opulent nose, loaded with cedar, chocolate, plum. Full bodied on the palate, deep matured red fruit, portwine, licorice, garrigue, leather, oak, nuts, cocoa, built on subtle tannins. Perfectly mature now it will drink well over the next 2-5 years.

Four years has passed since I last had this wine. Maturity is coming on nicely, rounding of the edges. Nose very fine, showing more notes of leather, dry herbs, wood polish and some wet leafs and pipe tobacco. Palate quite deep and good, with licorice, sweet dark cherries, oak wood spices, chocolate and leather. Dry tannins and quite high acidity to balance the sweeter fruits and the alcohol level. Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Alpharetta, GA) : See through rose with orange in rim; a bit funky on the nose, green quality, oak, vanilla, licorice, menthol, wild strawberry, cherry, char; sweeter on the palate, fresh berry, youthful; needs to resolve some of the sweet fruit and oak but this should be very good.

Knowing some things it was decided to open and decant 3 hours before lunch (oxtail stew) First nose started with earthy, chalky soya sauce style with touch of nutty aromas of almonds and nougat. After one hour, dark, slightly sour fruit started to emerge, but it was still somehow out of balance. 3 hours later additional aromas emerged; sour cherries, dry roses, tea, balsamic notes and some herbs. On the palate wine shows appearance and texture of thick and oily …

It is brick red color and starting to show some brisking separation of its body, medium bodied, nose and flavors of black fruits with layer of tangy cinnamon spice predominating, subdued floral and nose, the black berry and black cherry fruits give way to accent tones of black olive, tar, soy and hint of baking spices with supple dry tannins. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2016/10/nino-negri-5-stelle-sfursat-2004.html

This is the second time I've served this Northern Italian Nebbiolo blind and both times experienced tasters have guessed it to be a Napa Cab or Napa Cab blend. It's body is in no way big enough to be a Cab but since it's done in the apassimento method the ripe raisin character seems to fool them. Decanted for 5 hours, this is one of my favorite Nebbiolo's outside of Piedmont.

Beautiful, brilliant ruby red like a Jem. Pronounced nose of earth, terroir, vanilla, fine oak, blackberries and ripe cherries. Dry medium plus body, medium plus acidity, supple yet strong, rolling tannins, hint of alcohol. Black cherries, blackberries, vanilla, sweet oak, great earthy taste along forest floor in the morning. Finesse and complex. Balanced. Easy mouth feel which means that this must have been decanted. Was taken from a bottle using Coravin system. long, delicious finish. Enjoyed at Eataly!

sweet cherried and coffee intensive on the nose, vdery fruty on the mouth nuts, rose, rasberry, leather, pine, boletus in the mouth. Nice nebbiolo but I am for more structured variations, however much better than classical amarone, Good balance. I like this bottle much more than my previous 2006 botte a year ago. But its not an improvement but bottle variation. Start drinking up through 2018

See through crimson, rusty rim; new oak is strong, roses, sour red cherry, anise, vanilla; penetrating, focused, very firm acid, sweet fruit, long finish; very Nebbiolo like from Piedmont, not getting the apassimento, no overripeness, nice balance though new oak needs to integrate with more bottle age; possible that this will turn out to be the best yet from them.
