Lambert Estate Shiraz The Family Tree

Opened my bottle bought in 2010. Had it with a great filet mignon and it needs a big steak. The wine is rustic, brambly and big right now on tar, ink, maduro cigar tobacco, scorched earth and black plum and black berry fruit on the nose with a salty, savory quality. Ripe black fruit up front and eucalyptus on the finish of medium length. Very mellow tannins, probably at its peak now.

Medium-dark ruby red color. Interesting nose of blueberries, nutmeg, sweet tobacco, and a touch of menthol. The palate is medium-full, dominated by oak at the moment. The fruit underneath is dark and sweet. The layers of spice, earth, and menthol are interesting. This would pair very nicely with a lamb dish.
