Domaine Georges Mugneret Gibourg, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru

Nose and palate resembled each other with mineral-infused red fruit with hint of earthy undertone. The purity of the fruit was signature of the domaine's style. It was ethereal and feminine. Drinking very well.

From young vines Ruchottes Chambertin, this is anything but a 1er Cru. The aromatics are bright and complex, the palate velvety, and the finish as long as the diva’s death scene in an Italian opera. The earthy/forest floor, developed Burgundy note is just starting to develop, but that touch of funk is just enough to add color to the fruit, and add intellectual interest beyond the palate pleasure. Starting to develop a bit of gamy funk but still plenty of fruit and freshness to carry it. Could be even more interesting in a few years but very enjoyable now!

Attractive dark fruit, primrose florals, violet, brown sugar, graceful and energetic. Young Ruchottes at its best. 93-94

Super floral with flowers, animal, coffee beans and spice. So dense, powerful and expressive. Very sexy and feminine.

Right out of the bottle I would have guessed Kiwi had I had it blind! Ripe, sweet, bright red fruit. Lovely balance and soft velvety tannins. Easy and fun. At or just past it peak. Drink up.

Running squarely against most of my prior, not pleasant experiences with 2007 red burgundies of many sizes and shapes, this wine is singing softly and elegantly now. The perfumed nose suggests floral patterns more reminiscent of Chambolle and Morey rather than simply Gevrey. On the palate, a medium weight wine of moderate complexity but real 1 ere cru breeding. A very distinct mix of bright cherry, cassis, mild smokiness, moist earth in a very smooth and a bit light passage …

Surprisingly refined and warm , after about a half hour, despite the 2007 acids and a somewhat less than full circle of viscosity or taste. Gevrey expressed with more chiseled strawberry and underlying earthy red fruit, with less of the gutsy undertone and some viscous fruit wanting. Nose was nice but not overly expressive. Overall, quite enjoyable now-- would not wait-- and fascinating contrast to their 2008 Vosne below.

Distinctly Gevrey, as contrasted from other M-G offerings. Quite minerally. Powerful for the vintage. Gains earthiness as it opens up, and is surprisingly floral from time to time aromatically. Needs some more time -- try again in 2-3 years.
