Nice Brunello from a strong year. Easy drinking now with bright cherries and a bit of spice in the finish. Well structured and good balance.

Ruby red in the glass with cherry and leather on nose. Silky smooth mouthfeel, medium body with cherry, floral, fig, leather. Medium soft tannins and acid.

A favorite Brunello, with full body, bright intense black cherry and cranberry fruit. Dark ruby without any hint of brown/tawny colors often seen in Brunello’s. Crisp acidity, with pleasant bite of tannin. Great with red sauce and Italian meats, and drinking nicely now. Strong QPR.

Exceeded expectations. All kinds of fruit but not overwhelming. Tannins nicely integrated and the alcohol wonderfully balanced. It only took a half hour of decanting to bring out the nose. So ready to drink now.

Mature bouquet with earth and truffle. On the palate the same impressions, a touch of sweetness very round tannin and very mild acidity.

This is a softer, simpler style of Brunello with less concentration and a smoother, more mellow feel. The fruit leans stewed strawberry and red cherry, with a hint of sweet baking spice and some natural, slightly funky notes, including a touch of fermented vegetable character. It’s silky and easy to drink, but feels a bit watery and light for the category. Interesting in its own way, but more about charm than structure.

Edcantedabout an hour before serving. Initially, the nose was a little off to me but that improved when consumed. medium body, quite tannic before the meal, needed food to offset that and then it was pretty good, not great, it seemed to have lost fruit with age.

Perfectly mature. Completely open with fresh fruit, lovely spicyness. Elegant and refined but plenty of intensity.

from double magnum fully mature color- reddish brown with a bricked rim, tertiary nose, fully developed with savory dried herbs and bramble, on the palate genteel aged cherry notes with dried rose petals, good length showing underbrush and getting a bit dry on the tail end, attractive in its way as it nears the end of its best days. ***, drink soon.

Med garnet w/ a brick hue. Probably would benefit from a decant for sediment. Med+ baked, stewed red cherry, dried black cherry, prune, leather, vanilla, earthy, dried savory herbs, balsamic & sweet baking spices. Aged 24 mos in French oak. Dry, with med+ acidity, med+ to high tannins & alcohol (14%). Full-bodied, w/ med+ flavor intensity & a long finish. The palate is fresher, w/ more tart fruit than the nose. It is drinking very well @ 11 yrs and …

Exactly 2 years since last bottle. Wine actually had improved. This wine might had been in sleeping phase 2 years ago, or that it was a tired bottle due to bottle variation. Tonight, it had suddenly come back to life with vitality. Dark cherry, dried prune, tobacco, dried spices, truffles, potting soil. Medium bodied, medium-high acidity, high tannin, medium structure, medium alcohol and long finish. Tannin was overwhelming, but good amount of fruits and acidity in the wine that would …

Solid and classic brunello. A couple hours of air helped, and it holds up with plenty of air. With a rich pasta dish, worked well. Fairly complex, medium body and acid. This was gift so can’t speak to value. Drago version is richer but that’s sort of a matter of preference, this is a nice slightly lighter wine.

Something soft about the fruit on the nose, its slightly muted by the smell of dirt and a bit of smoke. There's some fruit, primarily cherry and maybe some darker fruit mixed in, but its again dominated more by the dirt, a bit of a dusty feel. More than anything this is dominated by tannin. Had with a steak at first, which made it manageable, by itself its fairly harsh and incredibly drying.

Medium body, transparent, mature cherry colour with bricky rims, 14% abv. Delicate aroma of blue and red fruits, flowers, wet oak and tobacco background. Rounding palate of sour cherry, plum and juicy acidity following by grippy tannins and long, still fresh finish. Complex but not too rich, elegant and balanced wine. Food friendly, well paring to grilled chicken stuffed by rice. Serve 18ºC - 20ºC. Still requires two hours aeration. Drink now and the next decade.

Clear brick red with lighter edges. Tart upon pop and pour, but lovely after an hour's decant, and even better with food. The acidity of the wine paired very well with the fattiness of braised short ribs.

Medium-deep reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of dusty/earthy notes & floral notes, some camphor, leather, herbs, spice notes of cloves, minerals, sandalwood & a hint of cedar. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & pomegranate with spices, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Short decant and into the glass with this BdM. On the nose, ripe red fruit, oak and smoke. Initial sips showed notes of leather, ripe cherry, wild mushrooms and oak. This developed nicely and notes of vanilla, tobacco and pepper came through. Lengthy finish. Med+ bodied, dry, well evolved tannins and great character. This was a true to form BdM and quite enjoyable. For the quality, this is a solid value. Will sip again.

Has a great finish. I tasted right out of the bottle, then decanted it for 5 hours. It’s smooth on the finish with lots of fruit notes (cherry and plum). I had it with a savory stew would rather drink it alone as it legit lost in the meal.

This is my third 2017 BDM, and so far they are nothing great. I decanted my wine, and let it aerate for three hours. The 2017 Castiglion del Bosco needs a whole lot of time. There is a thick layer of tannin, and a thin layer of fruit. I sipped over three evening's and I noticed no improvement. I'm not positive that this wine is going anywhere.

This was more balanced on the second day. Flowers, cherries, and earth on the nose. Bright and dynamic on the palate with candied raspberries. It was a bit tannic at first, but then settled down. Leather and strawberry licorice on the finish, with a residue of "charcoal barbecue figs" (quoted from below). I enjoyed this, but part of me wishes I had waited longer to try it.
