Laboure-Roi Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens

Drank over two nights. Nose is iodine, iron and a little animale in the background. The palate starts with iodine, earth, and prominent acid. Drying tannins. The mid-palate is almost non-existent (the fruit, acidity and tannins just disappears in the middle.) The acid and some of the fruit returns on the finish, which has decent concentration, but not much complexity. Overall, it was an 'OK' wine --- not remarkable, but fairly clean and balanced.

For the price its decent. Muted nose (touch of mushroom), very soft tannins after some air and only a little bit of acidity left. Finish is more then respectable though.

PnP ... At first, it smelled very gamey with hints of black cherry, some apple, strawberry. On the palate it started very hollow, almost flawed ... Gamey bordering on wet cardboard. However, that flawed sense went away and the gamey faded back leaving nice, balanced flavors of strawberry, apple, leather, cherry with a hint of undergrowth. Spicy, medium to long length. Bit of mushroom and cherry on finish. Very nice when it finally opened up.
