In a perfect place for drinking. Layers of dried and stewed strawberries with a refreshing acidity left. Tannins are perfectly resolved to give a slight texture to the wine. Everything from forest floor to old wood cabin showing tertiary notes from oak without too much funk to distract. Biggest detraction would be the mid palate and finish don't have the same level of intensity as the nose and beginning of the palate.

A wine that seems to improve with a little bottle ageing. Burgundian in style with good fresh fruit and earthy undertones. Good value wine that is in the drinking window now and for the next couple of years..

Big nose, bright fruits and earth. On the palate, a touch of sweetness under the red fruits, cherries, plums. Will the sweet taste fade with age? A bit of earth and oak underneath. Fragrant, feminine, well structured. Tannins still apparent, a few more years should refine this wine. Very nice and would buy again.

The nose first shows beetroot and earthiness, and opens up after a couple of hours to display blackberries, black cherries, marzipan, smokiness ( and, yes , maybe hints of rubber) , sharp redcurrants, hints of lovely airy flowers, and and an earthy backbone. On the palate, acidity is still high, with medium plus tannins, and flavours of tart cherries and cranberries. Quite sweet upfront, flavours of cherry, plum and cinnamon, before that gives way to a gentle earthiness and a clean finish. Manages the trick of being a pure tasting wine but with enough interest to sustain. Will buy again.

13.5% vol Darker appearance This has a focused, dark and spicy nose – cherry and plum, a little oak and stewed summer fruits: more contemplative. Creamy attack, some plummy richness that carries through to a leafy finish. Similarly full but more generous with greater fruit weight and follow-through and a n attractive bready (summer pudding!) finish. 90/100

Fragrant, but punchy, there is an earthy sweetness here that recalls beetroot and berry coulis. A lot of intrigue from the spice and dried leaves, but the top note of the fruit is just a bit too round and sweet for my palate. This could definitely even out and I recall really enjoying aged Kumeu pinot in the past.

Drinking pretty well right now servied slightly chilled from the wine fridge. Plenty of red fruit.

Interesting nose of green peppers, olives and red fruit. A sort of explosive sweetness in the first sip, followed by red cherries and red currants. After breathing for a while, tased more conventional: typical Pinot noir but still with and edge of sweetness raw tannins and smokiness. I suspect it needs much longer in the bottle to really bring out the potential.

13.5% vol (JM commented: like being in the cellars of somewhere like Drouhin-Laroze – very excited by the nose) Understated yet complex and enticing nose of red and dark fruit (cherry and brambles), maybe a little camphor too. Very Pinot, very fragrant, elegant, precise and well-defined. Feels seriously good. Lovely rich attack and good lift, lots of black cherry and a surprising sweetness. Their chardonnay is delicious and worth trying if you haven't. So I thought I'd try their PN. Jury is out. Definitely more old world in style. Certainly not a fruit bomb. No tannin. Savoury and saline (nose and palette), which in combination with enough fruit can be delicious - but it overpowered what fruit I could detect (tart and red). So it certainly needs food. I think this is more CdN than CdB. Dark appearance, dark fruit quality – cool cherry, a little Pinot florality and on the leaner side but still ripe. Hints of leaf and marzipan. The bottle is a little warm, so the palate feels a little softer than it might otherwise do, but still nicely balanced, understated and crisp (not hard). Delicate, pretty cherry fruit, very much CdN Villages styling. Very well balanced as per the range.

10-15% new oak for 12 months Fresh and leafy quality, pretty red and perfumed blue fruit, a touch of cream and some savoury smoky elements too. On the light side of medium-bodied, with lightly grippy tannins and well-judged astringency to the crunchy red fruit character. An earthy, fresh Old World style Pinot and a nice alternative to the sweeter, smokier, richer examples from Central Otago.
