Lovely bouquet. Aromatic flowers. Beautiful palate. Silky smooth and enticing flavours of rhubarb, dark berries and boysenberries, dark spiced plums ending with an ethereal sweetness but punchy with good funkyness. Barnyard and pinot ripeness altogetherWhat a lovely surprise. This is totally that happy go lucky person that everyone likes. Yummy

(12.5% vol) Purple in colour; nose of violets, wood (subtle), black pepper, and a sweet fruit as well as camphor (or naphthalene) -- the nose is actually more enticing than I can describe; smooth and bright mouth-feel with spicy and woody notes on the palate; wood and tannins on the finish just a hint too prominent. Opaque purple/red. Violets, road tar and some dark berry fruit. Spicy finish. Pretty big but ripe tannins. Very primary now but enjoyable with a grilled steak and roasted banana fingerlings. Should age well for 7-8 years, more like 15 for Brad L. :)

2007 France Trip - Hauts Chassis, Duclaux, Dumaine, Clape (Northern Rhone) : Perfumed nose of fresh, dense black cherry fruit. Good structure. Nice.

Tasted at Vineyard Gate Millbrae--gorgeous, lush waves of fruit and tarry Rhone-y syrah. Sad that this costs what the Cornas used to, but I guess this is the "poor man's Clape Cornas" these days....

Tasted at the domaine. Pure black cherry / cassis. Dry tannic structure. Looks to be another impressive CdR Rouge from Clape, and should be even better once a bit of the Renaissance wine is blended in... (see TN).

France Trip Part 2 - Northern Rhône; 6/18/2006-6/20/2006 : Cask sample tasted at the domaine w/ Pierre-Marie Clape. 100% Syrah. Big nose. Jammy purple fruit. Doesn't quite follow through on the palate as the finish turns a bit drying. I think the addition of the Cask #14 fruit will help the final blend here.
