Halbturn, Sankt Laurent, Burgenland

Fully tertiary with thick aging notes of truffles, earth and tobacco. In the distance some red fruit, still fresh. The palate structured around fresh acidity. Tannins have molten into the fabric. A ton of dried tobacco. Really impressive and a great drink at close 15 years of age.

Brief notes: Red cherry fruit in its purest form accompanied by intense notes of wet earth and tons of tobacco with the latter creating amazing verticality. Fresh palate with juicy red berry fruit, but rather one-dimensional and maybe a bit heavy-handed in terms of structure and texture. That said, this wine is in an excellent drinking spot today.

Decanted briefly which works well. Beautiful layer of aging notes of wet leaves and underwood. Fruit of smoked berries and also sweeter, fresh red berries of cranberry. Complements of black tea, floral note of roses and hints of green bell pepper. A nice balanced and harmonious palate with structure but also an feel of lightness to it. Soft, well integrated tannin. 94+

Ripe red cherry fruit, unfortunately came across as highly extracted, maybe borderline Kirsch aromas even. The nose failed to excite. The palate shows fresh fruit, strong presence, full body, good length - but the fruit was clos to cooked. What a let-down after the impressive bottle only a few days earlier.

A big surprise in so many ways. A plethora of tertiary aromas of wet earth, tobacco, mushrooms, truffles and leather. Light fresh red berry fruit of cherries. Harmonious and well-balanced palate with fine tannin, a soft texture and unexpected intensity. This is drinking at peak and is perfectly matured, but wouldn’t bank on too many years left at peak.
